I brought this bike about a year ago not running, had been sitting for a year or so I believe,So I got a upgraded stator from Taffy and it changed my life, finally got to take the bike out for a few rides, what a beast, had many goodtimes so far, would love to post a couple of photos to show you where Iv been!(many thanks Taffy) BUT...the old girl dosnt like to start when hot,(dosnt help that I am limited to kickstarting as the 'hot 'start' is just freewheeling and not engaging) Iv have done a fair bit of investigation into the problems that the early 550s had with the hot starter and rather than fixing my exsisting one, wondered if I would be better off buying something newer that is a bit more reliable?Any thoughts would be much apreciated. Also the old dellorto could be getting a bit tired and thought maybe I should look at replacing with something new and improved?Could I possibly get away with a crf 450 carb or such like?any advice on alternatives?Cheers

PS,I put a video on youtube of one of our trips up the North Island of New Zealand,my mate wasnt to good at filming,so limited footage of the husaberg,(also had to ride on a flat tyre for most of it) but worth a watch,go to youtube type in:

90 mile mission

Hope you enjoy!

Sorry forgot to mention that I believe the FC has been converted, hence the electric start, and it generally starts up after Iv let her cool down for 10 minutes or so,cheers

The ways of the force must be strong in you Mr Berger.

I just memorised your technech and went down to the shed. The bike was luke warm from starting up an hour ago, anyway ..Throttle open,de-comp in,5 kicks thru, find TDC,release decomp and throttle,2nd kick it starts with ease,.....pretty happy at this stage...warm her up for a bit.....hit the kill switch....Repeat the technech....1st kick it starts up just nicely..So i havnt been able to acheive a result like this yet,you can just feel the smooth kick going through and Im pretty confident this is going to work for me next chance of a ride. Will let you know,Thank you and cheers!!!

whato fella

I would look at new parts in the carb - I do a kit. atomiser especially.

also I do a starter repair kit that will stop the engine spinning through.

Taffy

Hi
Yes you can use one FCR (from CRF) but you will spend some money on the aluminium intake, on the rubber and on jetting, plus the carb.

You can make one hot start to your dellorto system, I think there are still pics of that on the owners docs.

it isn't necessary to have a hot start. the bike is rich so lean it off by getting it back to squeeky new needle and atomiser, a fuel valve etc.

Hi Taffy and thanks, also cheers Zaga for the info,
I sort of thought that may be the case with the crf carb, because I live way down here in NZ,sourcing parts/info etc for the older bikes can be a bit of a headache, this is why I asked about crf carb,so in that case I would agree on re-kitting the Dellorto and keeping things origonal,it is something that is probly way overdue and so far everything Iv done to the Hussy has been very worthwhile, shes a keeper thats for sure!Great bike!!Would like to do the starter Taffy,do you also do the carb kits?could you PM me some prices please? Many thanks

yes I do the starter motor and a few other things that may interest you. PM you now.

regards

Taffy
