Does any body know what needs to be done to upgrade a single bearing balancer to a dual bearing balancer? 2001 came with a single, and 02-03 came with dual, The manual states they are not interchangeable. Thanks, Rett

Check The Doc under resources in the menu to the left of your screen. See: "When stripping and rebuilding the motor". The updated counterbalancer part number for your bike is in there. Here is an excerpt:

Counterbalancer Update for 2001 and early 2002 models

The single bearing counterbalancer was replaced with a double bearing counterbalancer in late 2002. Counterbalancer failures were experienced on some 650's and on a lesser amount of smaller displacement engines. A counterbalancer assembly is available to upgrade to the double bearing version. Included are: Counterbalancer, bearings, circlip and shim. The 2003 counterbalancer cannot be used, as teeth on the counterbalancer sprocket have a different mesh.

I have a slightly used dual bearing ballancer off a 03 i was told., the size shape, and gear look identical. The only visible defference is the dual bearings, maybe just needs different size shim. Any other way to tell, since there are no numbers on it. My local dealer wants to charge $420.00 for the new upgraded balancer. I would hate to order it, and then find out the one i have will work. Any suggestions?
