My 2000 Fe started acting up lately. The bike starts fine, about 30 seconds later it starts snapping and popping badly and wont idle unless you crank up the idle to the point it is racing. after about 1-2 minutes the Left exhaust manifold starts turning red with heat (at which time I shut it down) I have cleaned the card thoroughly, put fresh gas in it and a new air filter. The choke acts normal, and is turning off as it is supposed to. I recently adjusted the valves (about 7 hours ago) that 7 hours ago also included a new exhaust side valve rocker arm, since the bearing decided to grenade. I had to ride the bike about 2 hours with the trashed rocker arm to get out of a secluded area in the Big Bend TX area. My self diagnosis of the problem is that the problem is either:
My compression hardware is stuck partially open.
The carb is still dirty.
I have a bent valve have a screwed up valve seat (Big Bend debacle).
Maybe the orange exhaust goop let go letting air in.
Anybody got any ideas?
