Hi all! I just bought a 2000 fe600e and it runs great for about 20 minutes then backfires and flat out dies. I’ll let it sit a few minutes and it starts right back up and runs a couple minutes then dies again. Ive gone through the Dellorto carb fully. Checked float height. New spark plug. Compression is 130 psi. Battery is new. Haven’t checked valve clearance but the bike runs and sounds great until it warms up. I’ve been doing lots of reading on this site and decided to pull the stator and have a look. There’s a hole and a crack next to where the wires come in so I purchased a new stator from rmstator. The problem is there is no instructions. How do I set it so the timing is right? I read it should be at 36 degrees but have no idea how to do that. There doesn’t seem to be any marks on the stator. I do have lines on the flywheel. This is my first time doing any electrical work on a bike and I’m rather confused to say the least. Thanks for any help.

don't throw away your old stator. you may be getting it rewound.

I didn’t think you could rewind them. It looks like a solid block of plastic. The new stator is all open with exposed windings. I did get the bike to start last night but it’s backfiring bad. Do I set it for 6 degrees or 36 degrees? The manual in the “owners doc” says to line up the right line on the flywheel with the line on the stator at TDC. But there is no line on the new stator. I’d post pics but not sure how.

There are three wires going from the stator to the voltage regulator. Two yellow and one blue. I had to cut the factory connector and lost my pic of where each wire went. They plug into a connector with all three yellow wires. Anyone know which one of the yellow wires the blue one connects to or does it matter?

Ok just got done testing all the wires and voltage of new stator. Everything is within their specs. 30v red-black, 3v green to black while using electric starter. Red-black 1400 ohms, green-black 195 ohms. My old SEM stator tests red-black 3000 ohms, green-black 185 ohms. I forgot to get voltage readings from the SEM stator. But bike fires right up when I take new stator out and put back in old stator. Now the starter is locked up and I’m just about to light the damn bike on fire and call it a loss at this point. I don’t know what else to do. Any thoughts?

Red-black 1400 ohms, green-black 195 ohms.

that is a KTM stator as I said on another thread here this week.

just remove the gear from that big round cover on the right and prove that it is the starter and not the engine. Isolate the problem.

look on my FB page for videos of the ignition timing.

I speak real slow for those that are hard of understanding....I mean hearing!!!!!

....or just bring the bike and title to az and put it in my garage;)
