1999 FS 600 Clutch Install

Can anyone give me good directions on removing the side case and replacing the clutch. Last time I took the side cover off, I didn't do it correctly and took the kick starter off and then the cover. I was told, after paying to have it put back together, that it throws off the timing of the starter?

Anyway, I want to do the clutch myself, but I want to do it right. Any help would be great.

pull the kickstarter, pull the shift lever, remove all the screws, hold your thumb over the kicker shaft to keep it in place, pry and wiggle the cover off. this model does not use the clutch basket to hold cam timing like the '01 up models, nor does it have anything to do with the starter..

Thanks Ned. I will do that. That makes perfect sense. I think the last time, I pulled the kick starter shaft and screwed it up going back in.
