I have a 15 in the front and a 41 in the back. Iv somewhat topped out at about 85mph but I didn't like how high the rpms were. What is a good set for a higher top speed, what would happen to my low end speed, and what is the redline rpm on this bike?

My manual shows that 15 - 42 is the stock set up for the 501 / 4 speed. Is that what you have? You should be able to drop 5 or 6 teeth lower that stock in the rear with the power that your bike puts out. When I got my 2000 FX600 it was set up with a 15 front and 42 rear(if I am remembering right). Stock for the rear is supposed to be 48. Pegged in 5th I was somewhere around 110 mph. That was with a 130 / 80 - 18 rear tire that was going flat (and I pussed out and did not go for 6th). My starts from stop were exercises in clutch control but they were manageable. Good luck!

6 speed wide ratio trans with 15/43 on 18 inch rim is what i have been running and like it, 15/42 i think was stock , i have done a lot of experimenting with the ratio's up to 16/42 down to 15/48, after screwing around with it i ended up pretty much stock like you, i would expect you to have 100mph top speed but acceleration will slow down between 85-100, 16/42 didnt have any higher top speed and was definatly slower all over but it also cruised at like 4500rpm@60mphish; 15/48 ratio top speed is 85 and then your engine will really be screaming :D i think if you want it to be faster without lag up to 100 you need a different camshaft and/or other engine mods, the effective speed range is 30-80mph imo this is where it will shine......as far as redline goes some say dont rev them hard others say the moon, i think consensus from what i have read is 8500+-500 unless your Dr C :bounce3:

i think in a fe you have a 6 speed right?

are you sure your tach and/or speedo is right? i would just wind it up once and see what happens :D

i could be off by 1000 rpm, but still. you say you got up to 110 in 5th?? im about 65 75 in 5th. i dont know if you have a newer/bigger bike than i do but that sounds a little off to me

110 in 5th seems a bit high, not sure of the fx transmission gearing compared to fe, 95-100 super tops in 5th for the fe, were both on 600's but i dont think there is that much difference in hp from 501-600cc, are you sure you dont have a 14t in front or something? 85mph in 6th should not be a problem at all, even 90. rpms will likely be pretty high at these speeds as your nearing top and your not going to want to cruise at these high of speeds for a really long time anyway, if you want it to you need more bike.....
