I am completely new to Bergs, other than I know they make some cool bikes. What can you tell me about the 99 501s. Are there things to look for.....problems? Is there any aftermarket support? Is there any need for aftermarket support.

Here is the bike I am looking at:

What do you think of this bike, does anyone know anything about this particular bike?

I am very interested in this bike, but I don't want to go into this blind.

Thanks for your help.

Well, he's a member here, so he obviously knows what to do to take care of his bike ;)

99 is the last year of the old style engine & frame. In 2000, they upgraded the frame but kept the engine. A lot of people like the 2000 and older engines, citing that the pre-oil pump engines were bullet proof. We've got a lot of members running the older gen bikes, and recently in Moab, we probably had 5-7 of them running around, none with any problems.

Nobody can tell you if that particular bike is going to cause you problems. Gilgamesh's posts pretty much stick to non-critical issues(see here). We can tell you that when properly maintained, that year bike can keep a grin on your face for a very long time to come. Parts are still available for it and there's still enough people riding them that you get a lot of help if you run into a problem.

If you do get it, rest assured that we'll help where we can, and you will have a blast on it!

thanks,

Thank you very much for the quick reply. Sounds like a great bike, now if I can get my DR sold maybe I can pick up this Berg. Thanks.
