hey all, I've recently been blessed to inherit a '96 501 husaberg. It is a very pretty enduro bike but it is not running.
It sat for almost a year apparently, and had not been started. I had drained the gas, and changed the plug thinking that would solve its issues, but I'm unable to get it cranked. while testing the plug for spark i was unable to get anything..
Turns out the stator was replaced about 2 years ago. could it have gone bad again? would a bad stator hold me back from getting a spark? .. any ideas?

thanks so much. will post pictures of the bike soon. very nice : )

Hi Tysonl,

Welcome to the site, first thing you need to do is to check the resistance from the stator, the figures you need to be seeing is;
Black to Red 1750 Ohms
Black to Green 23 Ohms

I've known many people that have put a running bike in storage and when they drag it out no spark. If there has been moisture within the ignition cover when it was put away over time this will fester, and because the wire is so thin and the original enamel on the wire is of poor quality the copper wire just corrodes and you end you with no resistance across the Black and Red wires.
But if you are getting good readings check all electrical connectors, this could be your problem.

Regards

Sparks.

Thank you for the quick reply, Sparks!
I will check these as soon as I get back home. I've been searching around the site a little more today to see what other information I can familiarize myself with. And I'm noticing more and more people with battery/starter motor problems. My '96 does have an E start, though the battery was too dead to turn it over when i tried to crank it. I tried to charge it, but did not have much luck with the terrrrible 1 amp battery charger I own. Instead in order to get my starter to turn over I jumped it from my truck. Could a bad stator keep my battery from charging? also I've been reading lots of things about Decomp, mixture screws etc.. is there somewhere that I could read up about these things and learn a little more about them?

Thanks

Tyson
