Hi everyone,

I was given a 1994 501 fe in pretty good shape, Except blown motor. Thought i would split the cases and rebuild. Of course i dont have the correct fly wheel puller, So i decided to send it off to closest dealer, about 200 miles away. Anyway my question is how much do you think its going to cost. It definatly will neeed crank bearings, piston, shift shaft, and cam gear.

Any advice or input would be greatly apreciated!!!!

what to replace to save your shelf from future failure:

conrod kit: 200euros
piston+rings (woessner): 200 euros
cam gear: 40-50 euros
cam chain (regina) : cheap
2*6206 c3 bearings : cheap
2*6201 cam bearings : cheap
crankshaft seals (brown): also
waterpump seals and o-rings:also
reed valve:2-3 euros
cylinderhead gasket: 30euros
replating cylinder if necessary: 150-200 euros
2*rocker roller bearings: about 35 euros

check valves and guides for wear(bmw m3 guides can be fitted)
reseat the valves
check rocker shafts, plugs for wear.- machine new ones if necessary(shafts need hardening treatment after machining) overbore and bush the two holes of the rocker cover where the rocker shafts plug into
install a teflon guide to the cam chain.
set the crankshaft axial play at 0.6 mm
be sure to tighten the valve adjustement nuts at 10nm not more

after you change all these things and changing oil at 5 hours, valves at 20
and assuming that the gearbox is in good shape i would expect at least 200 hours untill next rebuilt

Oyk,
Thanks for the response. What exactly is a conrod kit? After doing some research on this web site i realized i could split case with out removing fly wheel, Once i opened her up it did not look as bad as i thought. Definetly needs rod bearing, and i was thinking i should do both case crank bearings while im in there.

Any other sugestions, ideas welcomed!

Chrisdoc conrod is short for connecting rod so the kit should be a new rod with the required bearings /bushings depending on the bike.

connecting rod bearing + pin = 100 euros

rod kit contains connecting rod+big end bearing+pin+small end bushing.

keep in mind that at least in my experience if there is some axial play in the connecting rod, it is very rare for the con rod surface not to be damaged.
i wound spend 200 euros and keep my mind safe.

the above mentioned list of parts may look big and expensive but at the end may prove cheaper.....
