Hey how is everyone…

I recently inherited a 1994 Husaberg 501. I can’t get it started, but I know that it ran not to long ago(because I rode it-what a beast).
Now to answer some of the basics:
I have spark. Although the plug looks new, it is pretty black.
When the engine does try to start it likes to backfire. Usually though the tail pipe but once it did backfire though the carb.
The card is a Dellorto VHSB: main jet=185 Needle=(looks like)K3 choke=50 looking at the carb diagram-looks like Idle jet (short)=30
Well that’s all I about that.

What I have done…
Changed the oil. Although the old oil was not in to bad of shape.
Removed and cleaned the carb. Again it was very clean except some yellowish gooey stuff at the bottom of the float bowl.
And that’s about it.

What I suspect it is. (from reading all the info from the website of course)
Valves need adjusting… I have no idea of the clearance though.
(most likely) the carb is jetted wrong…to rich I’m guessing.

My info
I live in Flagstaff AZ. @ about 7000ft.

Thanks for your time, any help will be greatly appreciated. msc :manablack:

first things first...

Hi there,

You really need to check and adjust your valves before anything else, as it's the most common reason for a bike hard/not starting. You can find everything you'd ever want to know about it here.

Adjust them, and let us know how it works after that.

thanks,
json

If you ever make it down to the valley maybe we could take a look at it. I would try a fresh plug as well.

Maybe some of that yellowish gooey stuff at the bottom of the float bowl ended up in the main jet, pilot jet or start jet. I have seen it happen!

Check to make sure the pilot air jet is clear also. Oil and filter oil can get into it.
