Hello!

I just purchased a 1991 501 that I need to restore. I can't seem to find any info on the 'older' models anywhere or sources for parts. Also I have been looking around for a good quality picture of one and I can't seem to find one on the internet anywhere.

Any helpful advice would really be appreciated!

Is bodywork easy to source? Is it interchangeable between model years? It looks like the frames are similar between the newer and older models with the exception of the subframe being removalbe on newer models. Is this right?

How about stickers/decals for this year/model?

Would I need to purchase a main bearing from a Husaberg dealer or would any bearing supply shop have the correct size?

Sorry about all the questions. I own a few newer Laverdas so I'm used to dealing with difficult to source parts and lack of dealers (there aren't any Laverda dealers anymore!) but I've never come across a bike that seems to have as little info on the web as Husabergs and info on older models seems to be completely non-existent!

Are there any books that deal with Husabergs available?

Thanks!!!

-Tim

RE: oldie goldy

Hi Tim,

I happen to have bought a 1990 Dirt Rider magazine with an "MC 501" test in it. I've got to scan some stuff this week. If you want, I can scan the article for you so you can see the bike.

Also, check out Husaberg Tech for some history.

thanks,

Jason!

That would be fantastic! I'll check out the husaberg tech section. I think that my Avatar is too big.

Hi Tim,

I'm fixing your avatar now. You go ahead and read up on the history :)

Welcome to the site Quadrifoglio!
Have checked out the "official" Husaberg site?
Go to their download section then click "former files". They have an owners manual and a parts manual which covers 1989-1996.

Also, if you'd like me to email you, I can send you a tif file that shows a beautiful picture of an 89 I believe. They show a smaller image on the Husaberg.se site.

Best of luck restoring a classic,

Strange! I had already found and read the Husaberg history in the tech section from a google search but hadn't realized that it was attached to this site! :D

Husabutt, Thanks for the pictures!!!!!! That will help me while I'm putting the bike back together!

I did download the shop and parts manuals from the Husaberg website a few days ago but was worried that the parts listed are no longer available. Is this the case or does Husaberg keep a good stock of older parts? Everything from engine internals to plastics?

Thanks for all the help!!

-Tim

From what I have seen here most engine parts should be available. I would start with a call to Dan at MotoXotica 707-446-4282. Also try
HMS Motorsports
Don't forget your local dealer if one is nearby. There are many super knowledgeable people here. Relax a bit and lets see who shows up.

Quad,

I have a 91 FE350. I have basically done what you are speaking of, less the plastic. Yes, all the parts are available. You have come to the exact correct place to begin your searches. Everything you will need to find out with be accessibly through this beautifully maintained website.

As far as I have found, all the parts up to a '96 will fit your bike (in general, everything up to 2000 will too). Head, jug, cases, etc... They made slight changes from year-to-year, but everything was backwards compatible. The Europeans are VERY good at this (my company requires the same thing!). Dan is a good start.

Good luck. Welcome to the family!

RE: and the article is IN THE BUILDING

HERE's the article I was telling you about. I think everyone will get a kick out of reading it.

That is a great article with some really nice photos! Thanks Jason.

"Cagiva executives reportedly offered Husqvarna's engine designer a new position with the company during the buyout -- cutting grass. The Husaberg is his answer. For the record, it tills better than it mows."

We Love It!!!

THanks!

THanks for the help/advice so far!

I have finally picked up the bike and it now resides in my basement in about 3 large pieces and 3 boxes!

The bike came with a lot of factory tools which will help greatly with re-assembly of the engine. Two tools have me confused though! THey are both about 3 feet long. One of which has a socket at the end for a ratchet.

I'll try to take a picture of the tools later and post it to try to find out what they are for.

THe bike came with about 8-10 extra sprockets, a bunch of front sprockets, an extra rear spring (it is the original one that was pulled off a month after the bike was originally purchased), a few tires, tons of tools/parts, aluminum handle bar guards and about a month's worth of work getting it back together.
