at 150 hours i decided to inspect the sump plug magnet after every ride .

i have noticed at the end of the last 2 rides the presence of metal , at today's
inspection it told me one thing . REBUILD TIME

this 04 FE 650E goes strong , but it is becoming loud mechanically .

i choose to take no chances and rebuild , i think that if your berg has 150 hours or more it is a good idea to check the sump plug .

total mileage 12 700 klm

hello my fello aussie!
How man km's does 150hours come to on your bike?
I was just reading the latest Motorcycle Trader (Australian) and they have done a story on a bloke who changed from a DRZ to an 2005 FE550E and now has 10 000km's (6213.99 miles) ?.
It had the primary drive nut come loose at 4400kms but that was tighted and absolutly no other problems to date still going strong.
the fuel range has droped from 120km to 90km ,
hope i get atleast 10000kms out of mine,,,i ride it really hard though...try to ride easy but i cant.

what milage is other berg owners getting?

i think that myself i would be very happy with those figures,
10000 kms from a race motor,,,,

what do you think?

yes , i am very happy with the rock solid reliability of my berg .

i spoke to the husaberg national manager [ aus ]
he said expect around 10 - 12 000 k's before rebuild , this figure was quoted
for trail use .

he was right =D>

Nice to hear another good news story !! :)

Certainly a big improvement on the earlier (02/03) bikes

Keep us informed what you find when it gets stripped down- it will be interesting to see what it needs.

(and how much it costs too !!)

yeah let us know what needs replacing,,,maybe some photos of piston ect,,,
also what the cost and whether oem or aftermarket.

good luck

i have been slowly getting the parts oem only

conrod kit $ 483.00 main bearings $ 99.00 x2

gasket kit $ 220.00 balancer bearings $105.00 x2

cam bearings $ 17.00 x 2

piston rings on back order , need gudgeon pin , clips , and 4 x valves

plus any other parts as required .

who would like to take a guess as to what is causing the metal to appear on the sump plug ???

the above cost is aus dollar - thanks to my dealer for the discount

My guess is intake cam follower on rocker arm.

Mine chewed out at 85hrs- but that was with the "53" cam

havent put enough hours on it since I fitted the "08" cam to see how much kinder it is on the intake rocker bearing.

Your intake valves and guides will be throwaways too, if you have been running ULP or PULP.

Make sure to replace the counterbalancer intermediate shaft bearing in LHS case too.

Mine is a 501, 2005. 1000 km. It now has a metallic sound, sounds like a loose camchain, and after reading THE DOC- RED ALERT, it seems to be just that. Can this really be true? I used to ride KTM, my last was a 450 EXC with 8000 km, i never changed anything but oil and filters. Do i have to make a lot more service on a BERG? Are they not as reliable as KTM´s??

im only new to the husaberg lifestyle,
I hope they have the reliability and are ably to reach 10 000km easily,
I am a little bit suspicious with just the little refinement issues like the chain touching on the farme and oil in airbox, there seems to be a few little issues with the motor internals,,,lets all hope that we get long life ,,,,,I do ride my bike 2005 fe450e very hard on the street as well and if i cant get near 10 000km i will think twice about buying another HUSABERG,,,maybe..
im being unrealistic about owning a race bike and expecting km's like that

six days

if you are concerned about your cam chain , remove your exhaust pipe and take out your cam chain tensioner .

you will be able to tell how far your cam chain has stretched by
how far the rod has extended .

in 12700 klm i am on my 3rd cam chain .

i'm not sure whether you got the new D.I.D camchain in 2005 or not? either way, what with the newer profile cams like the '08' i'm suprised that you have camchain trouble. as has been suggested, remove the central bolt from the tensioner and fromm within remove the spring tensioner. next, undo the two bolts and remove the whole tensioner. THEN you can see the amount of teeth used in the auto tensioner.

afterwards zip it back to zero and the tensioner will click it's way back within a few moments.

on internal inspection of the motor , the old cam chain had been rubbing on the crankcase .

at 12700 klm on the motor, the husaberg australia technician was amazed [his words ] at the condition of the motor . there was minimal wear on the bore , conrod , bearings .

he has fitted new rings and replaced the conrod , main bearings , balancer
bearings , cam bearings . and 4 x valves .

the motor does not get flogged . i use the best oil [imo ] and it gets well cared for .

gotta be happy with that
