I thought a 15t should fit, but it's hitting the swingarm protector (not sure what it's called).

Should I cut the rubber away? In the pic, it looks like the previous owner cut part of it off, but if make enough room for the 15t, I think I'd have to cut the rubber protector in 2, and I'm not sure if it would stay put.

(This is the only website where I can't post pics... not sure what the problem is.)

Normally you can fit up to 16t in a 2008 berg ?
try to unscrew the chain guide push it back where it makes a U turn around the swing arm and retighten the screws while pushing it back behind the sprocket (where it should be if I remember correctly...)

Just looked at a parts fiche... the part I was referring to is called Chain Sliding Guard, and there's no way to adjust it. The guard wraps around the front of the swingarm, and that's where it's hitting the sprocket. I just don't see how this wouldn't hit the sprocket.

I have owned a 2008 fs650 and had no problems fitting a 15/16t front sprocket I can remember the chain slider being an anoying thing but can't remember what I did to it to make sprocket fit...
I do know I did not cut it in 2...

I bought it with a 14t, and the slider was a little chewed-up, but I'm not sure what size sprocket did that (I don't know the bike's history). But the 15t hits the slider pretty hard. It just occurred to me... maybe I don't have the sprocket pushed in (towards the engine) far enough? It's not in front of me, but the circlip snapped in fine, and I thought there was only one groove where it would fit... is it possible there's another groove? (That doesn't make much sense, though).

You can put the sprocket on upside down! (but you would probably notice that when you try to put the chain back on ) there is a flat side that needs to be on the outside other than that I'm not sure what else could go wrong.....

I thought the sprocket looked about the same, regardless of which way it was turned (unlike my 14t, which is different on each side). So, I figured- the words should be facing out (15t - PBI - made in USA).

The sprocket is the same either way, ie: you can't put it on wrong. A 16 fits, but you have to unscrew the slider top and bottom and jockey it around to get the 16t behind it.

A 15 should go on with no problem at all. If it's a problem, then there's something wrong with the slider. Perhaps it is stretched or bulged out right there.

To facilitate much easier switching between 15 and 16t I ended up cut my slider, but only after cleaning the swingarm, and gluing the slider top and bottom with black RTV sealant. I made sure it was in the right place and taped it tight while the RTV cured, then cut it the next day.

Thanks... it's good to know that the 15t should fit. I didn't want to spend too much time messing with it, if it wasn't meant to fit.
I'll look a little closer at the mangled slider and see what I come up with. I imagine it's a cheap part if I wanted to replace it.

I called PBI, and the guy I spoke with told me that they stamp the words on different sides of their sprockets, but for my model, the words should be facing the engine. So, I flipped the sprocket... I think the guy was wrong. I'm pretty sure it's identical on both sides.
The slider was kinda wonky where it wraps around the swingarm, so I ordered a new one ($17). The bushing under the swingarm which holds on the slider was smashed, and a new one was over $8! It's just a dished-out washer, but I didn't have anything like it, so I ordered one. That's kinda crazy.
