So 14/50 on the 06 Fe550e is so good for real enduro woods trails, very nice, it shortens the distance from 1-3 and I see 4th gear now! ..... but the bike is not as jedi berg fast as before, now it kinda fights the gears rather then speed up into each one. I can see how a racer would want the taller gearing. Still 14/50 is not too short by any means. Very nice.

and THANK YOU TAFFY AND DALE. bike is leaner now again and running so good. and it does run a little hotter too so I am staying put at 4000 ft 50-80F temps at 42pj, middlle clip on the OBDVR and 170 mj, 1.5 turns on the FS. I got a TIGER BERG NOW@!!!!!

i have that gearing for one reason only. if i go into a tight corner with taller gearing the bike doesn't fall in - it stays upright. with taller gearing and a closed throttle it just wants to keep going onwards.

first gear will do anything you want the bike to do. don't even need the clutch at those awkward sports just lift your feet and duga, duga duga and you come out the other side.

i hope these are the qualities you also look for.

regards

Taffy

Bob,

Glad to hear that you are happy with the gearing and jetting changes. I currently am running a 15/52 set up. Your set up is a 3.57:1 ratio, and mine is a 3.46:1 ratio so you are definitely down there. My ratio is good for 102 mph at 4400' msl on a dry lake WOT, with about a half mile run. You might want to keep nudging your way down on the main jet Bob. I'm runnig a 162 or 160 depending on conditions at 4400' msl. You may however find that you have to lift the needle a clip or two to get it back where you want it. Remember that a change of about 10 in the main jet size is worth roughly one clip position, per Mr. Taffy, and I believe he is right on the mark.

Taffy, I know exactly what you mean by the bike falling into the corners. Just rolling off the throttle as you enter the corner makes it want to tip right in. Who says that braking effect on four strokes is bad!

I do the 14/50 too on my 550.
Have a second wheel with 48 sproket
for enduro, wood, single trial I prefer the 50.
Chain 116 links fits for both.

BTW: my chain, especially the clip gets "filed" at the outer side

i was looking at my setup and i have 116 links with 14/48. it doesn't appear that i would be able to get a 50 on with that chain although i would like to try that setup. just isn't enough room.

I have 15/45 with 114 pins. So I am going 15/47 and I think 116 pins will be ok. Any others have a similar set up?
I'm thinking it will bring the rear back just a little which is fine with me. Just not forward, I don't want that.
And as for the 47. I didn't see one in the Berg parts list so it might be a KTM 47 that wil fit im hoping .
In a few months I'll get all three, front and rear sprockets with new chain. Got 85 hours on em now and aren't looking all that bad yet.

with 14/50 you have to turn over the chain tensioner at the rearwheel axle, then the 116 links fits.

Hi Armin,
I had the same issue with filed clips - I looked around and found out, that the chain slider was bent by hitting a rock or tree...
Just bent it back, or remove the metal-cage and use the slider without it.
files clips are gone now
