I installed my friends brand new 72 250 shock spring in to my bike with 10 mm of preload. Feels good on the rough stuff and wheelies but the front has gone to ***** and I cant tip it into a corner with the same confidence. Also there is a terrifying headshake when braking in deep sand that wasnt there before. What gives ? Do I need new front springs to match ?

You always have to keep the suspension balanced. If you stiffen the back, it puts more weight on the front.

Thanks CrazyTed I should get the stock fork springs from my mate and fit them as well. After 70 odd hours with the preload adjuster wound up to infinity the fork springs would be cactus. Sending the suspension away for a $800 revamp isn't really an option right now. Is it possible to spring the bike for a 95 kg (geared up) weekend warrior without revalving ?
