I was reading in motocross action about the new berg motor. It said the designer by the name of ??? explained how the centring of mass would work wonders. Does anyone know who this is.... I thought Roland or Tomas would be the designers. Any informaiton on that.

I would also think that since the the movement is in a more front and back direction you'll have an easier time leaning the bike since the forces will be more pronounced in the horizontal direction than the vertical as current motors are designed.

Thomas is "just" in charge of racing and Roland doesn't do that much of the groundbreaking thinking nowadays. Although he is naturally very much involved since he does much of the prototype work. Jens Elmwall is the main man behind the new engine layout.

A bit down in this article from Milan last year you can see Jens next to the engine http://www.fastbikes.se/index.php?optio ... &Itemid=29
He actually doesn't look like that, his hair always looks like he has just taken of his helmet :D

A great guy who always has time for the little guy, just like Roland :notworthy:

This is his normal look

it seems the bmw is the only other radical new bike coming soon. I am concerned that no rails under the bmw engine though as I often smash into logs etc. the bmw does not have a kick start iether.

so does anyone have concern about electric start only?? for a dirt bike??

Do you have concern for the electric start in your street bike?

A bigger concern should be the small high-revving clutch on the BMW. the first thing i said when i saw it was it will wear and jerk when miss treated in tight trails. Time will tell.

with the electric only street bike I don't worry lots of oil and on road, not smashing through mud and crap. so far with electric start I only used it for restart. when you take the motors apart the metal wear from the electic start is often seen with some metal dust still held within the gears. would you fly a helecopter without all the double back up things they have (actually I don't think I would anyway).

with the bmw.....we are talking about a big company that has been around a while....ok you pull the clutch and and there is a lot of spinning, but they are you saying the revs will hack the friction plates a lot more? they seem to have achieved centring the motor very well by having the sprocket shaft also holding the motor in. Husaberg needed to get the idea when someone was fitting a motor, took a rest, had a look and said Hmmm why don't we just leave it like that?

and both their riders went out or rd 3 of wec with clutch problems.

also on the subject of no kick starters didnt ktm release their 450 sx as electric start only a couple of years ago. how has that worked out?
