Hey guys I need some advice...

I'm just about to pull the trigger on a FS650. I can get an 06 or an 07 for about the same price with about the same hours. Any reason the not to get the 06? Does the 07 have any increased reliability or are they the same mechanically?

Thanks,

Mike

go for the 07´ Just for the graphics¡¡¡

I love the way looks the 07, much more than the 06

I am far from an expert on this one but one thing that supposedly happened in the FS's from 06 to 07 was a revised rear subframe loop to provide additional clearance at the silencer when running the 5.00 wheels on the 07's.

I put a 5.00 on my 06 FS and it rubs pretty hard ...

I have never been able to determine if there were significant engine changes...

Unlike you I prefer the silver wheeled 06's to the blacked out 07's :)

Cheers

What rubs where? What size rear tire do you have on the 5" wheel?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I am a 'foof' street rider - not a racer...

My 06 came with a 4.25 rim with a 150/60 - I am now running a 5.00 with a 160/60

The rub occurs at ~1/2 travel between the left side of the tire and the inner side of the silencer. My guess is there would need to be another 1/2inch required to allow full clearance of the tire.

As it is the silencer just gets pushed out of the way and it doesn't happen on the street very often....

chilled

they moved the silencer out in '07 so have a look at how. also i and everyone else had your problem and all you need is a 3/4" spacer and a longer bolt.

Hi Taffy,

I will experiment with shimming out the silencer this winter - I wasn't sure it could be done without tweaking the exhaust mounts all the way to the header flanges and producing leaks/poor fit there...

Mike,

If you do go to a 5.00 watch your tire selection - there is very little room in the swingarm.

I run Michelin Pilot Powers which fit on the small side for 160/60 and I have less than 1/8 inch clearance. Several tires (I have heard Dunlops in particular) are considerably larger than their stated 160 width and I think you would have trouble fitting them in without shaving it....

I also drop a tooth on the CS (16>15) to allow me to move the wheel back for addtional clearance

Cheers
