I have an '06 Fe650. She an I took an unplanned swim recently. After flushing the oil, doing the filters, drying the cylinder/plug etc I appear to be having a fueling problem. She will idle only with choke on and any move on the throttle she tries to die and if the choke is off she dies completely. I have taken the carby off and the slider is working well, the little throttle squirter jet is activating as the slider goes up. I'm really not sure what else could be causing this. Maybe the idle jet is fine but the other is blocked? How do I go about servicing the carby to assure it is properly clean? Has anybody else come across a similar situation?

Remove the carb. Remove the float bowl and blow out all of the jets and passages with carb cleaner and compressed air. There is an outside chance of ignition problem with those symptoms. Pull all the electrical connectors, blow them out and reassemble with WD40 or some form of dielectric. Give a look inside the stator cover for corrosion as well.

I basically pulled the whole carby to bits, flushed every jet, cleaned the bowl (which was full of white scum) and flushed the lines... All good it would seem. I still can't take it out for a ride due to other stuff I'm in the process of doing but it starts and revs on the stand so it would appear the blockage is gone.
