hi there!
i'm trying to jet my berg. it has a full silmotor with no dbkiller.

i opened the keihin and it was running with 45 idle and 175 main.
switched to 50 -> 190 and runs much better but when i kickstart it i need to pull the throttle a bit before or it won't start!

Hi pastulo, when I bought my silmoto before 1 year I had the same problem.Finaly I get to an othorized husaberg mechanic and he told me that it was the hardest jetting he had ever made :D .I recently opened my carb for seeing the adjustments he maid in my 07 FS 650e:

40 idle
160 main
needle in the lowest possition (To be clear I mean the needle clip in the top position of the needle)

This adjustment works very nice!!!With silmoto you will see a big difference buddy!Whats out now, your berg might bite you.....

The only think that I cant help is the excact possition of the fuel screw, but if you set your carb as I told you,you will find it easylly.I think that is 1,5 turn but I am not sure ,try it.I will have been checking the fuel screw but I had a serious injury on track before one month. So with the right wrist and a spondyle broken I cant help you in that now because I am on bed the last month.

Hope helping you with that

Hey DaleEO,

Silmotor is an Italian exhaust manufacturer and a dbkiller is one of those restrictive pipes you screw into your loud race silencer to reduce noise output.

All the best,
Simon

WTF?!?!

40 - 160???
i think this is impossbile...this jetting is smaller than the orginal one!!! :?: :?: :?:

Hi pastullo,

I know that sounds strange, but you dont have to loose something with testing this adjustments. My 07 FS 650 works very nice with the same exhaust and the adjustments that I told you.As I said the mechanic told me that it was difficult to set the carb for the silmoto and in the end the set was a little bit strange.I can say that its worth!Just try it

Regards sotosberg

the jetting for these carbs has been available at this site since 2003. if you want to believe some ****-and-bull story about how difficult it was all because of a silencer then good. i hope he says it took 3 days and charged you for it!

in my opinion i could walk up to any bike on this forum and make it go like a rocket inside one hour. 160 main, 38 pilot, 60 pilot air, DVR in clip1. the information has been here years.

how a husaberg mechanic is meant to know what 'we' do i don't know? who is going to pay him to test! test! test! nobody. unless you can find a customer who falls for thhe 'ol sucker punch!'....

i'll put my knowledge against ANYONE AT ALL ANYWHERE AND ON ANY SITE AT ANY TIME.

there some fat c...t running jetting on TT and he talks out of a place where the sun don't shine.....

regards

Hello Taffy,

Of course you are right! The jetting instractions are on DOC.I am not an expert, specially in jetting,so when I had to jet my berg to work with this exhaust I got to the othorized mechanic as I said.Maybe its a ****-and-bull story but I just said my expirience with that.I also believe that with testing you can always set it better!I thought that this might help pastullo and thats why I right in that topic.Hope to be better in jetting in the future :D and learn more about it!

Regards sotosberg

ok ok..i went on the dock and it says 190->200... i'm confused now..

no idea how to make it start without pulling the throttle keeping my jet set?

or well..i'll buy those jets

ahm thats for the dell orto?

this is it

in my opinion i could walk up to any bike on this forum and make it go like a rocket inside one hour. 160 main, 38 pilot, 60 pilot air, DVR in clip1. the information has been here years.

I'd put a 165 MAJ in as well but Im definately no exysperta

taffy'l be back soon

edit:

reason as described in DOC is to stop the bike going lean at high rpm.

BUT it also narrows the gap between peak tourque and peak power. with the stock 200MAJ (Main Air Jet) the big main jets give more tourque than the lil ones. thats why lots of people like them "it goes better" well yes it does have more tourque but smaller main jets give more power.

so with the 200MAJ you have to choose one or the other;

1) big main jet more tourque and safer engine temps.

or

2) small main jet nice crispy response and more power but goes lean at high rpm and you loose a lot of that nice 650 tourque.

easy to see how some 650 owners find the idea of a 155main rediculous.

or the way out, option3

3) just use a smaller MAJ / MJ and keep the nice 650 tourque and get more power and get more crispy response and not worry about engine temp :D :D :D

as a nice side effect the lil tiny pilots and mean needle straight/clip position behave better with a smaller MAJ too. starting behaviour will also be different.

i rebuilt the engine 1000 miles ago, maybe i need to make valve clearance again because there is an aspiration valve too soft (not tight enough)?

by the way is valve clearance recommended after rebuilding, right?

Iif you look at the service manual you will see that in engine assembly, valve clearence is the E7 chapter and I think that you have to do it.
If I rebuilt my engine I will do that

i would set the tappets after a rebuild and then do them again after about 5 hours. if they don't need adjusting i would leave it a long while after this but if they do need adjusting then you must do this until they settle and don't need you anymore?

aspiration valve = inlet

Taffy can I ask you, the jetting you suggest which is a lot leaner than even the std 05+ fs650 jetting, on a track or the road would it not be too lean at high rpm I ask as I know you ride dirt not tarmac correct?

i run a 145 and i advocate a 160-165 for safety. a 160 is just 4 below what they come with. thats not a giant leap of faith methinks. i had mine dynod with a 155 in and when i went to 150 i gained power.

i was in the dyno room and saw a AJS 7R being run up and there was so much reversion through the carb that i helped jet the bike. sean said as i left "there's a guy who really knows his stuff!". and sean ran the dyno and was a GP mechanic for 10 years for the binghams up near sheffield.

Hi Taffy

Off and on through these jetting discussions we end up tripping over potential differences in fuels between your side of the 'pond' and ours, and the implications to jetting recommendations - has anyone nailed this aspect down yet?

I have followed most of the threads on jetting and if it's in there, I have missed it...

Cheers

JD and i agreed that there was one jet between "us". i hope JD is a worthy enough proponent of the art.

fact is, the lower you go the more bumps you run into and instead of dealing with them, people just jet up and be done.

if you went in at 160 and it coughed and spluttered you'd just go back to 172 and shut up about it like 90% of people. i accept that.

i had a helluva job getting TT members down, coughs and glitches, pops and bangs. half of them were the people and not the bikes!

if people are patient and work to get there dilligently there isn't a problem.

i got a call from daleO and cheeseberger when they were at Moab a month ago asking for my best jetting that would work.

160 MJ
DVR c7
40PJ
no APJ

went like snot. and cheesy owes me a pint!

have a play with the MAJ if the lean settings are worrying. or if they are in fact lean at high rpm with your set up. they were "lean" on my bike so I played with the MAJ.

Its the secret to this carb/bike Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I ride tarmac dirt and beach often at high RPM and in temps up to 45 deg C. humidity down to 8% fuel is caltex vortex98, RON 98, nicer than BP ultimate in australia.

its the MAJ wots got the majic in it I says :D :D

Im no exyspurta But it does work
