Hey all,

I finally have something to post about. My brand new 05 FS650e with about 300ks on it had a bit of a funny gear box problem.

Was up in the hills carving up road bikes, when it skipped out of gear (I was probably in 4 or 5th and not shifting and did not have the power on) and it would then not select any gear. I though that it had broken the chain, as the gear lever still seemed to be acting normally.

When I pulled over to the side of the road, shut it down, I could click 1st. Then if I rolled it forwards, it would stop, as it was trying to turn the engine over (as per normal). Then I rolled it back to where it was and repeted the procedure and it just rolled forwards as if it was in neutral. I could then click it down into first again and the same thing would happen. It did this in 2nd as well.

I then had to get the bike to the car, so I started it up and it rode as per normal, but after a few k's, it got stuck in 4th gear. Could not change up or down (I guess thats what being stuck in gear is! hehe).

Then after a little bit, when I slowed for the car, it shifted down again.

Then this morning at the berg dealership, the mechanic rode it and it worked as per normal.

I am hope it is some small little easy find and fix. I guess I will find out in the coming days.

Could it be an issue that required the g/box to be apart? As the berg mechanic is only going to take the side (clutch) cover off and have a look around. He was not keen to split the engine to hunt for the probmen, so I might be left with a bike that is ready to go bang.....I hope not!

Other than that, its a bloody unreal bike!

Thanks, I have read all that stuff already (its a great thread).

But its brand new, why would it have a burr already? Or is it just one of thoes things?

I know a guy with a brand new 05 FE 550 who had this problem at 800kms. He was horrified by the fact that this had happened to his new bike- when he told me of it I just said"nah, dont worry about it, its a Husaberg thing, if thats your only problem you,ve done well"- obviously he hadnt heard of some of the bigger issues that were occuring in some of the 05 550s :)

Ahhh, fug it. What have I got myself into? :dontknow:

A good, fun bike hopefully :)
Just get the mechanic to clean up the shift plate and then proceed to ride it as its maker intended.
Every make of bike has its good and bad batches. Given the huge amounts of parts in a motorcycle, outsourcing of supply to different manufacturers and assembly issues, its a wonder that there arent more quality issues than what there is- whether it be Yamaha, KTM, Honda, Suzuki etc etc etc.......
Fix it, Ride it. Enjoy. :)

I hope this little hiccup goes away and I get a trouble free berg for years of hooligan motarding action.

BTW, Ausberg, I lived in Mildura for a few months and managed to scare myself silly in the sand on the yz in 5th gear with it tapped!

Now I am down in Melb. There is bloody Aussies every where you go!

!

Yes, theres some good riding around here, wether its top gear sandy firetrails or 2nd gear single track - I like nothing nothing better than taking city based riders out for a spin in my "playground"

Just heard back from the dealer. There is apparently nothing wrong under the LHS cover. He has no idea what caused the problem and told me not to worry.

I will drop the oil to be on the safe side and hope like hell that it does not happen again.
