Hey Guys,

I took my newly assembled sumo equipped 450 out for a 3 hour ride. Only to realize that I lost three bolts - one more loose. Right at the end of the ride a carb boot clamp broke!

I am going to blue lock tight most mounting bolts but find it hard to believe that this is a 'normal' state for a Husaberg.

I am still running a 50T rear sprocket from the dirt set-up, waiting on the 40T hoping that this keeps the rpm's down a bit.

Any suggestions??

only bolts i've ever lost was cos i didn't do them up properly.
apart from bolts that your undoing reg i would suggest most deserve somekind of thread lock.

normally I would accept that I was lax in the reassembly of the bike. But this is the first time riding on the road and I was very attentive to properly torquing bolts -- safety and distance from tools were strong motivators.

????????

This evening I will be checking every bolt for adjustment and hope to find some sort of indicator or commonality? Blue Locktite for the loose guys.

i see nothing out of the ordinary here , sometimes things work loose .

like you say .. loctite if required .

yeah, an its usually some farty little bolt thats difficult to find a replacement for that is most likely to go awol.

sods law

thanks fellas,

Hadn't run into this with the dirt setup so I was caught off guard - thanks for the input.

i lose some bolts that hold the plastic on every time I ride.... as I'm reassembling after routine maintenance i never think to loctight the 8mm bolts. but it does make a difference. a good bolt kit comes in handy.

macmac ,I run my fs on the road without problems but if you need to loctite then use 243 as you will be able to loosen them one day.I have tried quite a few sprocket combo's and 15/42 is what i use now and for track days 15/45

thanks for the advice guys

--- I just did another 300 kms and not one loose bolt after using the blue loctite. (the one that makes bolt removal possible)

--- i still have 13/50 set-up but going to try out the 40 to see if the 450 can pull it.

thanks for the gearing ideas. a 40might be too much but I have it to try.

My bike is a mobike advertisement for loctite prodocts!
I also found that the constant mud and water exposure has rusted/seized loads of my bodywork threads...on rebiuld I used really short threaded bolts or double nutted them to keep the dirt off the threads!

I think that the KTMs suffered this prob for several years, I think the austrian mechanics have ft.lb tension wrences and are reading n.m tourque settings. I checked every bolt I could find on my 550 before the first ride, and have not found any loose ones since.

Azza.
