Hello, Im looking at getting the mighty 2005 650E Supermoto from a dealer here in Ontario, Canada.

Ive read a bit about the crank bearing issue (scary) and would like to know what to look for when going to see this bike. I do not think Ill walk away from it.

It has 1280km/s and they want 6,499 CAD for it, kinda pricy.

What should I look for and what should I offer, Id like to get it for 5000 dollers.

The bike is advertised with a side shot and cannot see the signals

I have 7000km on my 05, with no bottom end problems, did some work on the head at about 5000km (100Hrs) valve guides needed replacing, valve seals, cam chain, replaced the conical valve springs with dual springs, and the cam followers (rollers).

I don`t race so I expect to get some more use yet before the bottom end needs repair.

If you are going to race it be prepared to strip and repair often.

Use good oil and change it frequently.

Cheers spanner

I will not be racing it, this will be my ride for around town, and who knows what else.

My GF has a car, so does my brother mom and dad so that takes care of that.

I would like to know does the tranmission use different oil then the engine? And what kinds of oils can I use?

In my yz125/Yz250 you are able to use 10w-30 motor oil (standard stuff) for the transmission (says so in the manual) even though its not nearly as good as say Belray 85w gear oil.

HJP, The engine and transmission use the same oil, It's not a jap bike. Trans & crank case are not seperate, 10w-50 High Quality, change oil often. Do a search on here for "oil" and you will have hours worth of reading. I run Mobil 1 full synthetic with no problems.

I have been using the 10/50 Motorex from the start. I change every 5 hours.
I have about 96 hours and 2800 miles or so. No problems yet. I plan on checking
the cam chain tensioner before 120 hours.

Welp, Im proud to say I now own a 05 FS650E with 24.3 Hours on the engine and 786 miles.

Now The problems.

Right rear blinker broken hanging by 1 wire, should be able to fix this.

The rear running light is not working but the brake light does.

I found the front brake light was unplugged and also some other connecter not connected to anything on the back of the speedo in the middle.

Also the air filter seems to be GLUED to the frame ? WTF? Can someone explain this I cannot get it off.

First, I would check or replace the bulb for the rear running/brake light. One of the filaments may be broken.
The air filter should come right off. Probably just really sticky filter oil that's been on there for a long, long time, somewhat gluing it to the frame.

Im in ontario canada

Does anyone know where I can get an oil filter online thats got them?

Does anyone know if its the same filter on a certain KTM?

Just get a hold of BOSS or Bike Barn they can hook you up with any filters you need

I just bought a stainless steel cleanable filter, sound good?

Now ive got to find the easiest way of removing the battery and getting a new one

Question: This bike requires 1 litre of motor oil, but the repair manual says to first fill the filter area half full, and then to next fill the engine with 1 litre of oil. So this is actually more oil then 1 litre.

Johnny,
Just remember, oil at bottom of the glass when cold and middle of the glass when hot
I don't fill the filter area either. I just put the oil a little higher in the glass window before
starting.
As for the Atv oil. Don't know. Why don't you just go with recomended stuff. Your bike deserves
it.

Well I bought it from a major distributer here and they said it was ATV Motorex 10w50 JASO-MA approved which is recommended, I do not think it is for ATV specifically. OIL MOTOREX 4 STR is the description when I added to cart

Looks like Im wrong, and bought oil for Racing ATV, but it is the correct weight and JASO-MA Approved. They did have KTM Racing oil but it was 20w60 and not JASO-MA or atleast didnt mention it.

This is what motorex describes it as

Fully synthetic, high-performance engine oil. Specially developed for powerful engines on 4T racing ATV/Quads. Provides the engine with optimum protection over the entire range of use. Formula tested under competition conditions.

* Excellent vicosity/temperature characteristics
* Ideal frictional properties (wet multi-disc clutch)
* Optimum protection against wear"

Specification:
JASO MA, API SG, ACEA A3

This is what I should have bought POWER SYNT

Fully synthetic, high-performance engine oil for 4-stroke motorcycles. POWER SYNT 4T stands for optimum protection against engine wear, ferocious power and extreme temperature and shear stability. It is not just by chance that racing teams all around the world swear by POWER SYNT 4T.

* Maximum friction-coefficient
* Extreme temperature and shear stability
* No slipping of the clutch
* Genuine racing quality

Specification:
JASO MA, API SG, ACEA A3
