In general, the starters on some older CBR 900 and 600 fits the newer Bergs.

It is a Mitsuba SM-14 but you need to make sure the bracket is right under the knob and not flush with the body of the starter. It should not have the bracket at an angle.

What you need is to find one on eBay and to buy the bracket to hold this starter, which is longer than the original one.

I usually manage to get mine for $20 and I make sure I have one in advance.

okk!!

do you have the bigger 650 watt starter, for the 550 and the 650 ccm!? or the tiny small wussy one!?

the big one is for me, worth around $150

ahh.. so you think the cbr starter will fit like a glowe!?

that would be a reliafe..

do you know how many watts theese starters have?

will this fit my bike, with the 650 braket:

Yes that's what I did on my 2001.

I bought a used CBR starter motor from eBay, bought the 650 starter bracket from one of this site's sponsors, spent a few minutes installing the new motor and was it.

Did not solve the cold start issue, but it helps with the restarts.

I am not 100% positive on #4626385298 cuz I can't see the side of it, but #4596115778 I am quite positive (after checking the microfiche at Bike Bandit).

It may look dirty but the inside is what matters, really. A bit of shine and it will look like new.

ok...

Have to send him a mail, and se if he will send it from the US of A til Norway...

DO you know how many Watt the #4596115778 produce`?
I assume it is the same size as the 650 starters!!

do you have any one i can contact recarding the new braket i will need...

her in my bumpy-road-conutry, the braket will set me back almost $77

I am sure there will be a parter one day in Europe, check the European eBay. Plenty of CBRs and such.

I don't know how many watts, you should check with Mitsuba. All I can tell you is that it seriously cranks :)

Heya...

I bought a 92 mod CBR 600 starter...

The starter is much larger then the original.
Inserting it into the whole went ok, but because it is so large (!) it hits the little bump on the engine, that is located right under the starter, near were the starter is inserted.

Therefore I am not sure about the angle of the starter. It seems to me, to be a little bit "high". This will most likely cause

Therefore I am not sure about the angle of the starter. It seems to me, to be a little bit "high". This will most likely cause stress on some bearings in the engine (According to a husaberg dealer here in norway. Morstad Motor.)

even so, the starter seems to spin the engine ok..

Have you had any problems with worn bearings etc?

Another problem is that the starter is so much longer, making a bracket for it will be diffecult.
how did you make the bracket? pictures?

the husa 650 starter is just a little bit longer then the original 501, but the cbr starter engise is aprox 4-5 cm longer.

Does anyone have the Heya...

SO; does anyone have the 650 starter engine lying around!?

Yes, the starter motor on the 650 is much longer and you need to get a new bracket. The fact it is longer makes it more powerful.

Show us a photo of what you got now and we can help you.

There is a different starter bracket on the 650s than on the 450s now.

I did tell you to make sure that the bracket in the back of the starter motor was flush with the central "knob". Look at the smaller motor for reference. And then to get the bracket from the 550/650s.

Part # 820.40.002.000 replacing part # 810.40.002.000.

Usually around $45 or euros.

I know that, dude!

But the CBR starter is even loger then the 650 starter, so the 650 starter braket will not fit the CBR starter.

the problem is in the inside/the front of the starter (near the gear) when the starter is mounted... it hits a bump on the engine hte first 2 cm of the starter.. in the back, it fits ok, but since it hits the block in the back, it does not seem to be alligned...

the cbr starter if muc longer, and goes almost all the way out to the drive sproket/chain of the bike...

I think the only way for a permanent sulution is to get a 650 husaberg starter..

I think the cbr starter wil wear the bearings in the engine, because of it not beeing perfectly alligned...

jappedy du..

There are several different starter motors on the CBR, some are the exact same as on the Husabergs. My starter motor comes from a CBR.

You need to compare and make sure they are the same before buying.

I bought mine from eBay for $10 instead of a new motor for close to $300. Now it's up to you if you want to be on the safe side and do not mine paying $290 more.
