New here with an 04 450fe that has no spark. I understand the kokusan ignition system is pretty good but am having difficulties with mine.
I performed electrical ohm tests on the stator (charging coil)? and pick up as per the manual found on the Husaberg website and they test fine except stator is slightly high.
Ignition coil test fine.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Matteas

Check the starter block, Is it turning over with starter or just not sparking when turning over?

sorry not sure by what you call starter block..
Yeah no spark when turning starter.

Hi Matteas

You mean the coil that is under the tank ?? Not the coils of the stator, correct ?

If that is the coil that you are refering to, that one only works for the spark, it's got nothing to do with battery.
That coil is charged and pumps up the voltage a lot, to make the discharge for the spark.

Hi

You've changed your first post, but I presume the question still the same.

So, that coil, the pickup, also doesn't have nothing to to with the charging system, that one gives the info of the engine position to the cdi, and the cdi will decide when to fire the spark.

Zaga ok thanks.
Yes still working on spark.
Everything ohms out except the "charging coil" I assume its the stator. Ignition coil is under the tank.
As per manual charging coil : ground to yellow .65 ohm
White to yellow .16 ohm
So my question for now is wouldn't the bike have spark with a good battery regardless if the stator may not work?

Hi
I'm not experienced with that ignition, but I would say you should have sparks without the charging system ???

Since it's very difficult to test the CDI, we usually say that when everything else is ok, it must be the CDI. Ideally you should borrow one to try on your bike

The 2004 was the first year of the kokusan on the bergs, and we're notorious for cold solder joints on the stator bus.

All of these bikes are also known for having low DC output, roughly 25 watts, which means low charging output for the battery. This becomes even more of a problem if you are running a fan. That's not really an issue for you as you really can't install the fan kit on your bike unless you go to an 2006 tank.

Having said that a lot of folks who installed fan kits with the 85C thermo switch, would find that their battery was flat after a few hours of fan running because the fan draws more power than the stock DC rectifier puts out.

The AC output for the lighting is pretty good, about 90 watts.

I sent my kokusan off to sparks for a rewind, and converted my electrical system over to DC. Changed the regulator /rectifier out to a universal trail tech model. With the SPARKS rewind the stator puts out 120 watts from low rpm. I had also changed out the gas tank on my 04 550 to an 2006 one and added a fan kit. The fan could run all day long while my lights were on with lots of restarts with no problem.

A little off topic for your original question, but IMHO this upgrade is well worth while just in terms of battery charging and dependable operation of the lighting system.
