Hi all,

I just purchased a Husaberg Fe400 2002 which so far has been great except for the electric starter . It has a brand new battery but it doesn't spin up fast enough to turn over. I'm at loss, it kicks over first kick yet refuses kick over with the electric starter. Could it be the valves ? or possibly the decompressor ? Any advice would be great
Also where are some good places for aftermarket gear to purchase for Husabergs ?

I know the feeling

I was at the WEC in Spain at the weekend but my 400fe 2004 bike would not start. I got some one from the Husaberg team to look at it and it turn out that the stator was rusted. so you might want to have a look at that. if it is look at the electric page it might help.
Good luck

RE: I know the feeling

Cuffy,

I had the same symptoms with my 2005...brand new battery not able to turn the engine over, but it would kick start. Before investing any money, try this: readjust the valves, but make sure to pop of the recoil spring for the decompression cable. If you adjust the valves with this spring still engaged, it will rotate the auto decomp. devise out of alignment and thereby force the starter motor to work against full compression. This fixed my issue completely.

it is really boggling my mind that this is not getting more attention, so many people have been buying starters from other bikes, replacing sprag clutches, never using the e-button etc. and with much wailing and nashing of teeth, complain that the e-start does not work!

Possibly I am as dense as i look but, for the life of me I have not read any post prior to yours referring somebody to make sure they followed this step to a "T" when they complain of the motor not having the grunt to turn the bike over or frying the sprag clutch all the time...

Why has somebody smarter than myself not chimed in and stated yea or nay this may be the reason so many have an issue...

RE: Re: RE: I know the feeling

Disconnecting the little spring wire before adjusting the valves does seem to have an effect.
I hace a 02 400e in the garage that can be something less than a pleasure to start.
I put slack in the cables, disconnected this spring and readjusted the valves...it will start off the button now.
Next step is to correct the overrich starter jet as it will not rev up on choke when cold.

risky,

I agree, when I saw Sean's post mentioning the decomp spring issue I figured he'd nailed it and the UHE group would be sending him cases of whiskey....

but instead, Poof! nothing.....

A bottle of Midleton will do nicely, thank you very much...he, he, he.

I gotta say, e-start rocks! I have never had e-start on any of my dirt bikes. Went for first ride of season yesterday on the e-start FE450 and after augering head first into several mud pits etc. the luxury of lifting the bike up and pressing "the button" was a revelation. I felt a quantifiable difference in energy at the end of the ride.
