Hi Guys,
First timer at this site so pls be patient if I get it wrong.
I have just purchased a 2002 model FE 501 after retiring my Husqv TE 610 and after reading through the problems in forum I dont know if I have done the right thing, but I am in boots and all now so I will see how it goes. My problem is ,there is a lot of noise coming from the lower lh side (clutch cover) of the motor when running. I have checked the nuts and gears on the crankshaft and counter balancer and run the engine with the starter clutch removed. Noise is still there, is there anything else I should be checking or is this just how they are ?

what kind of noise is it? bergs are infamous as being noisey due to straight cut gears.

Hi Mickd63,
Do you know if any of the gears have been changed behind the left hand cover. If so it is possible that there may be a mismatch as there was a change in the gear cut in 01-02.There is usually a few metal filings in the cover if this is the case as well.Usually when this is the case the noise is more of a gear whine.
As Osubuckeye says these motors do run a little noisey...does it run well and does the noise change as it warms up?

Also, it's quite possible your cam chain guide/slider is worn. This, in effect, will make the auto cam chain adjuster extend to full out position but still leave slop in the chain. This slop ends up with the chain kissing the inside of the case. An easy check is to drain the oil and see if you notice shiny aluminum particles with the dumped oil under bright light.

This happened twice with my 02 501. There is an upgraded new part which I believe you will find in the "Owner's doc" to the left of your screen.

As noted, Berg motors do make quite a bit of noise compared to other bikes.

Thanks for the feedback guys.... Dont have any history on the berg and have also checked the timing chain, all good there.
Anyway went out for the first ride this morning and the bike sure is a weapon, I love it. No probs with the engine, I am thinking it is just the standard Husaberg thing and it grows on you after a while anyway.
Oh one other thing, does anyone know and recommend a good dealer/parts supplier in Oz Please.

what state are you in ?, i dont mean a drunken state .

sa - wa - vic - nsw - qld - nt - or the apple .

in qld - 160k nth of Brisbane. But dont really care where the dealer/supplier is as long as they know their stuff and can supply. Air freight is pretty cheap for general parts. The dealers I have tried up here so far dont seem to care, dont know too much about bergs, dont stock many parts and dont really get out of their own way to supply in a hurry etc etc. So I I reckon there will be good ones out there I just need some help to find one. Cheers

I have dealt with Valley Force Husaberg in Vic- Lilydale - close to me so thats a bonus. They know bergs as it is the main thing they sell/service. I have had good dealings with them so happy to recommend them. Obviously they don't have every part in stock but they will chase tem for you.

suttos are helpfull .

the good news is that the husaberg spare parts service is excellent .
