I got my stator rewound by kris. Put it on, and now no spark at all. I don't know if I need to check the coil or what. I have not checked the stator cause I trust Kris did a good job, but just to be 100% sure I will. Any ideas on where to start?

i'd start with a review of the history up to now

Got bike about a year ago for $0. Bike needed bearings replaced. Got everything needed from taff and bike started a few times. I didn't like the brake light on the bike so took it off. Thought wtf, so I put it back on and then would never start. Battery dead, never started with that. Always with kick, and kicking with left foot is weird. Anyways, checked stator output and was bad so I had Kris re-wind it. Now no spark what so ever.

well you could have dislodged a wire or two. you really need to check the output of his stator first, rebuilt or not

red to black about 2,700
green to black 165.

once they are Ok then you're making a mistake with the wiring.

hi chris

i have just read this, my first thoughts have already been covered above , the first wire i would check would be the earth from the cdi - earth cluster on the chassis under the tank ( the shorter of the 2 blacks ).
secondly double check the stator values, all stators leave me reading red-black 2.9/3kohm and green-black 167/168 ohm and also if you check out the owners doc under electrical you will find volts ac values to compare with.
please let us know your findings
and if your not happy, all my work comes with a money back garuntee

cheers kris

Update:
I had the stator checked and its good. I now need someone to help with the wiring harness. I have a print out of Yeh bike, but if someone has pics of the wiring, and where it's connected, that would be great. What about checking the the coil? I am just frustrated with it.

Chris

first of all nobody wants to hear how 'pissed off' you are? we all have the right to PAY a specialist to do it and anything else that seems like purgatory is brought upon ourselves voluntarily.

your choice son! nobody made you do it!

anyone who is anyone knows you don't do "electrics" with photos - you do them with a WIRING DIAGRAM. end of.

9 times out of 10 there's nothing wrong with the coil.

regards

Taffy

Well thanks taff. I am frustrated, not pissed off, son! I might have asked for pics, but just need some help, and your defiantly not giving any.

well after many hours of looking at wiring diagrams and the bike. kicking it to no avail, i think i will need a new-to-me ignition coil. I am not getting a spark. I have checked what i think would be everything else.

Taff, do you sell one? what would it cost?

does anyone have one sitting on a shelf, not likly, that would be willing to let me try out and see if its the problem?

Thanks for everything.

you're looking at it the wrong way. send YOURS to someone else for them to try YOURS on THEIR bike.

I can do that, the rule here is that it is 20gbp to have it checked out. if it is knackered then there is no charge at all for that service. you just pay for it to be repaired or the exchange for one that is already repaired.

I have two here
a standard repair
a tuned repair

I prefer to do business away from UHE as this isn't my shop! :D

so please email me using my site if you need any more

FE501 02 No Spark.

Recent posts - I've been messing with the electrics so I can get an MOT. Engine always starts easy but lights & horn were rubbish.

Sorted - found broken red white in the loom. Got the MOT yesterday - so pleased went green laning...on my own....
Suddenly bike missed then died - a bit like fuel starve or wiring fault. Took about 15 seconds from first indication to full shut down.

Fuel OK & apparently getting through - couldn't find any wires loose so far.

Had to push the bloody thing 5 miles in full kit through long rutted grass. Still at least it was sunny & living in the fens - very flat. Small mercy.

Hoping it may be wiring in the ignition switch as all a bit dirty & loose.

However - just checked the stator ..

Green black 165.
Red black NO READING at all.

is that it .. new stator.
If so this will be my third in 6 years..is that normal.

Cheers.

Hi arkley

It's the stator.

You have been using rewinds, correct ??

One stator every two years it's not a great result, but it has happened to me.
But just had new ones lasting much less

You might have better results with your next rewind :D

Curse the luck!

Fate was probably angry you found that broken wire so it had to throw this at you......

there is always the chance that its a wiring problem at the back of the stator or under the flywheel

Hi Zaga - one was a swapped stator so that was my fault to be honest - the other two were rewinds from reputable sources on this site. I have no complaints there but wondered if perhaps there could be something with my wiring diminishing the stator life..... umm perhaps it's three as the one with the bike / the swapped one plus a further recon one..cant really recall.

Anyway.....to be honest I never do any stator maintenance - have seen posts here saying cover off and clean / dry out / WD40 / Vaseline O ring after every wet ride etc...so ????

Hi Bergini...yea fates a b@##tard... will check for dodgy wiring etc though once I pull it.
At least with a stator you know what the fault is & it's an easy fix (albeit pricey...)

if you have no reading then yes, it is gone I'm afraid!

they normally have a second go at starting etc but no reading is no reading. you did move the multimeter up to the second or third click to check it didn't you?

regards

Taffy

Hi Taff, - yes, I was desperate to find some kind of reading & I figured it would need to be set on the 1,000's rather than the 100's. But tried all settings anyway in desperation.

Looks like I'll be meeting you for a drink & a swap over rewind stator - do you have in stock..also air filter & ?? may even go a new battery - anyway lets not do bussiness here. Catch you l8r as the kids say...
