So, this last Saturday I decided to toss the rekluse in my bike. While taking off the clutch cover, I discovered that the previous owner had applied silicone to both sides of the gasket, resulting in it being torn to shreds when removed. This being a holiday weekend for us, there was no way I could have gotten replacement parts right away. Anyways, I finished the install, and parked the bike while I waited for Tuesday so I could order the new gaskets. Tuesday morning I call up BOSS, and order the parts, (I also learned about an o-ring that had been previously installed wrong. Thanks Rick!) and set to wait out the shipping. I fully expected to wait for 3-4 days, but to my surprise, the next day the box was sitting on my porch when I got home from work! About 1 hour later, I have the bike together again. And I start kicking the starter over. And over. And over. For about 35 straight minutes, then out of nowhere, it fires up.
So I let it warm up for a few minutes to get the new oil good and hot over the new clutch parts. I pointed the bike away from anything that I care about and stepped on the gear lever. It gave a small rock forward about an inch and just sat there waiting for me to give it some gas. So i gave it some. Off I went! Man do I love this auto clutch! Right off the bat, I am totally happy with it! I rode around the yard for about an hour and it just got better as it broke in. The clutch engages just barely off idle, and hooks up hard at about 1/8th throttle. Hardly any slip at all. It disengages when I lock up the rear, and is instantly back when I let up on the brake.
When I got this bike, I was looking for something much smaller, like an XC-F 250 KTM, but a guy asked me if I wanted to trade straight across for my 300 EXC. I was pretty skeptical about getting a big bore 4-stroke. I did not want the weight, certainly did not want the hard starting issues, but now I am extremely happy with the trade! I love this bike! Now I just have to wait for the rain to come back so the trails open back up, and I can get it out into some single-track!
Sorry for the long winded post, I am just excited about the new bike! :toothy8:
