Just took the 470 for a quick spin, what a difference the 01 cam has made over the 55 that was in it. Its so much nicer to ride not harsh and lairey like it was, oh no. You can actually feel the torque and power of the engine now and although just a quick spin i think i'm gonna like the bike again :D :D
Also got rid of the e-starter and fitted new fork seals and oil, still had a little wobble from the bars but not as bad considering the forks had an unequal amount of oil in them previously. Just need to get rid of all traceable wobblyness and i'll be a happy chappy

A quick check on the wobble, try backing off on the rear shock preload 2 turns. and let us know.

i would check the headrace bearings for wear, swing arm pivot pin and finally the rear wheel alignment. use a piece of string down the sides. i'll teach you more on this if you want to know-PM me.

having raced and ridden a 470 for the first time last weekend i appreciate that they have enough poser!

you may have read my post recently about the 'less offset yokes'. please also read my race report from last sunday; conclusion? KTM yokes turn yer bike into a rolls royce!

think about it seriously scoot.

regards

Taffy

Will do Joe, btw whats the std setting for the rear shock, i know i've messed about with it , and seeing how i've done the front end, the rear end must be contributing to the wobble a bit.

Taffy, i forgot to mention that i replaced the headrace bearings also, gonna finish it off in a while and have a proper test ride. Was thinking the other day about the ktm yokes, will have to see how the bike performs later.

Following on from the test ride yesterday. This morning, very hard to start, kick kick kick nothing, sort of fired then eventually bingo. Was sure that i may of set the valve clearance too tight as it wasn't having any of it later. So cover off, set tdc, looked at it and thought 'looks like i'm one tooth out' what a bugger. So fixed the problem just now, at least it starts better.
Now bear in mind that my test yesterday was with a advanced timing setting. The bike felt nice, a very relaxed feel too it, the front wheel never came up once (very un berg like) now its similar to how it was with the 55 in it but slightly chilled around the edges. Not bad, only time will tell when i get a chance to get out on the open road.

Ok had a play with the rear shock, was i pissed when i last went near it with a screwdriver 8O the bottom screw was totally wound out in fact it was all over the place. The wobble is still there but certainly not as bad as it was. I'm gonna sort it if it bloody kills me, now its personal  :)

Scoot,

I was refering to the shock spring preload, not compression damping. I had suggested you loosen the shock spring retainer ring 2 turns to lower the rear end of the bike. Please remember to loosen the allen locking screw in the ring first and then retorque it to 8Nm (70 inch pounds) after you are finished.

Joe

Joe, got a bit :? but i'm with you now. I looked at it earlier and thought  maybe i should have a play with this :) I'll report back with my findings tomorrow. Lets hope for a result.
