Looks good. It looks like it has an 06 tank and shrouds. If so, that would allow for mounting an OEM cooling fan. A big plus in the summer.

Nice Work Vintage rider...looks good.

A side question for those in the know...does the 06 style tank and shrouds drop stright on the 04 frame set up..?

Cheers

Cheers Taffy...I'll keep an eye out for one...I like the shape....hey while I've got your attention I understand you have stronger starter motor's, are they cool for my 04 550...? Second question, I'm 24 hours away from blasting out of OZ to Zurich and then on to Manchetser mid next week....where are you in relation to Manchester...? Might drop in and grab one while I'm in your world if possible

Cheers

The big question is if it has the 06 radiator with the mounting holes and temp sensor hole. Don't know if the fan require the newer tank?

Vintagerider says it is a 04 but the kick and exhaust says it is a 05 or newer, the tank and shrouds are 06. There doesn't seem to be any thermostat which indicates 04. The swing arm looks like a 04. The angle of the oil filler hole indicates a 04.
I'd say it is a 04 with new tank/shrouds, kick and exhaust 8)

whato pilot

i'm about 200 miles due east of manchester. if you were flying into gatwick/heathrow it might be worth the detour, stansted and for sure i'm near but manchester at 200 miles is asking a fair bit. but you're always welcome fella!

wow i love this site already, very good info, the guy i bought this from knew very little about it, he bought from a hare scramble racer and never had time to ride it.

i will take some pics of tank and exhaust bought the bike yesterday and already apart just cant help it, curious how this hussy works

vintage

see if you can't get the machine modela nd year in your signature somewhere - it really helps mate. also under your name on the left try to place yourself. it all helps and you'll get more support if people know what you're on about when you say the thingamee doesn't doodly on the whasisname.

vintage rider,

I know the guy (in passing anyway) that used to own that bike. I used to talk to him when Euro Motors was around.

update

great bike but when i bought it i was told it had bad gas and the spark plug was bad,it ran but it hesitated something fierce right off idle, changed the plug and put fresh juice in her, but still this awful hesitation, took some time looked at some posts on this site, and tore into her, has the same fcr that was on my honda crf so i wasnt to afraid, float level was ok and all jets clear 178 main jet, other jets were 85 and 40, mix screw 2.5 turns out, so i turned mixture screw in 1.5 and checked the needle and he had it on the second slot from top, so i moved it down to slot 4 from top, and put her back together i love this bike i did this all in less than an hour. bike now runs like my old crf 450 awsome!

the weather warmed up here in michigan to around 65 dgrees f and it still wont start on choke, choke in, starts right up cold is this right?

thanks for all your responses

RE: update

Hey vintagerider. I'm right across the border from you, we should go riding sometime. The weather yesterday was a nice break from winter. If my bike sits for a few months I get that hesitating too, until I take off the float bowl and clean out the little bits of solids that form in there. My 501 needs the choke even at 65 degrees, though I'm only running a 170 main jet.

RE: update

need your needle code vintage please?

the last owner's clip position was right for an * M/N* area needle but for a *T/V* needle it's way too rich now.

let us know? it will start with the letters OC or OB and then three more. sounds thin on the straight too. M-P?

we'll see.

regards

Taffy

i would love to cross the border on my bike all my relatives are canucks, new castle, and essex, an international adventure :D
