I put my 98 fe 600 on the stand this evening, started it, put it in fiirst gear and oiled the chain. The chain jumps like crazy! Once every rotation. I hadn't noticed it before but on a road run I could actually feel something hold the bike back for a second every rotation of the chain.Got any ideas for me? Thanks

I would start with checking individual links to see if you have one or two which are jammed or siezed, after that I'd take a look at the joiner link, and see if it is doing anything abnormal. I know that they often brush against the inside of the frame tubes behind the countershaft, that'd be my first check point.

check that nothings going on with your rear sprocket, i.e. bent tooth or warped sprocket causing the chain to catch on the chainguide.

Azza.

Chains and sprockets are pretty new, is there something internal that could cause this? I had the cases split a few years ago to repair the e-start. Maybe something didnt go back together just right.

Once a rotation? Which rotation? Chain cycle, front sprocket, rear sprocket? If it's once a chain cycle, I would remove the chain and inspect it.

Seems like front sprocket rotation, I will give it a closer look see over the weekend, maybe front sprocket to big

if it is on the stand the chain is at its loosest. with those models it could be your problem is the chain guard and rollers. The chain flicks into the small gap in between the rollers and kicks then is ok till it builds again....every rotation. Focus on the chain guard...if that is the problem look to see if you put afermarket rollers in ( i bet you did cos the standard are **** and expensive). If they are too big in diameter that may be your problem. I recall many people put the 2,000 year chain guared on the older models. It is not a problem when you are on the bike as the chain is tigher.

Let me know if this is the problem before you attach the motor.
