hi all just wondering if any one knowes if the husaberg clutch on the fs 650 is the same unit as used on the ktm 450-525 have looked at picts and they look the same
its just that a friend has a stm for a ktm and it might fit the berg
all help appreciated
cheers matt  :?:

The clutches are basically the same in design, but since they are on opposite sides of the bike and rotate in opposite directions, you can not use a KTM slipper clutch on a Berg. If you use it the slipper ramps will be pointing in the wrong direction and you will constantly slip. (However, you will have amazing engine braking!)

I will qualify the above statement in that I know it to be true of the KTM/HBG designed slipper clutch. As I have never worked with an STM, I am only assuming that they same is true (along with the fact that many people have told me it is).

Hi Colin,
You just possibly saved me from some grief. I'm in the process of having an EFM auto clutch made and I don't know if Garry is aware of this fact. I did just e-mail him and I may owe you a beer! :thumb:

Turned out it doesn't make any difference with the EFM . The balls in the pressure plate apply force in a radial fashion. No beer for you.

No beer?!?!?

Now I'm gonna have to cancel my flight out to Cali to collect.

I am wanting to get a ReKluse (or other quality brand) auto-clutch for my '06 FE650. Sounds like the KTM models will fit it....good news.

Anybody out there used a dual-action rear brake (left handed AND right foot), I also would like to check this out but I'm hoping for some other input.....

thanks

I enquired to rekluse for an auto clutch for my FE550 '05. They said they dont do one for that model. They indicated that they had tested one but could not get it quite right and so haven't got one for sale. Correct me if I am wrong adn they now produce one, that was about a year ago.

The reason that Rekluse doesn't sell an auto clutch for the 550 and 650 Bergs is because these bikes overpower the clutch with too much torque for the Rekluse to handle. The RevLoc clutches work very well with the big Bergs. I don't know about EFM auto clutches.

Rekluse now markets a "pro" version and I had a conversation with them and they stated that they would work on the larger bikes, in fact he was willing to give a large credit towrad the purchase of the new one, if i sent my old one back...

THEY DO HAVE TORQUE!..

I will have to call them and see what kind of issues they may have.

Hey, if the auto clutch internal balls are centrigually activated (which they are), so they will work on the Husie's and KTM"s alike, even though they spin opposite directions, then why is it that we sacrifice engine braking with the auto? Maybe I don't understand how they work. I've been told by people that have them that they lost ALL enginge braking. I'm still planning on getting one.

Engine braking with the auto clutch is the same as with a manual clutch down to the point at which the auto clutch disengages, at which time with the manual clutch you would normally be pulling in the clutch anyway to keep the engine from stalling.

If the auto clutch engagement is set too high, you will however lose some engine braking.

I had an EFM auto clutch for over two years on a Kawasaki KX-500. :D Never had any problems and setup was very easy. I'm currently having an EFM clutch made for my FE550. Incidentally, they also make auto clutches for Harleys so I think it might handle the mighty Husaberg! See photo for a look at the amazing machining done to make the pressure plate. 8O
