the blackberg is running a dunlop trials tire on the rear and it is a great tire for handling and traction....BUT; it is constantly spitting knobs. berger says don't be cheap: get the michilin, but i remember dez having one on his 600 that cypher rode at moab, and it too was starting to spit knobs. whats the deal? anybody have experience here? is it just the nature of the beast? is it the explosive power of the 450 berg? 8O

Hey Ned,
Try riding in the dirt instead of down the highway.
Trials tires don't like pavement.

Those that rode with me at Moab may remember I had a trials tire on the first two days. I ruined it with all the road miles. Like Rick said, they make terrible dual sport tires. The tire just gets too hot, and the knobs begin to chunk clean off.

Out of all four brands of radial trials tires (Dunlop, Mitas, Michelin, and IRC) the Dunlop is the worst as far as wear on a true dirt bike. I ran an already well-used IRC at Moab. When the knobs began flying off, it had 700-800 miles on it.

Watch your air pressure also. I run about 10 lbs.and never thrown a knob on my dunlop.
The IRC's are very soft and will crack at the base of the knob in 100 mi. but lasted almost 2000 mi. on a KTM 200.

yo log, it hasn't seen a highway with my butt on the seat  . but i guess you've already forgotten what az terrain is like .
as they like to say around here, "rocks are my friends"

kona  i don't think so! its a GIANT AC  with an old zoke z1 front end. frame was given to me by my son who used it as an east coast downhill racer a few years ago. i use it to explore trails and walk my dog.
