New 450 owner - Some questions

New 2006 FE450E owner here. Picked it up this Monday at a dealership 6.5 hours away and brought it home. Long day on the road, but worth it. I am quite amazed just looking at the machine and I can't wait to ride it...which should be at an Enduro in a couple of weeks. I already have a CRF450R (trail prepped/Rekluse) and a DRZ400e (RM forks, lots of mods). I got the Berg as an eventual replacement for the DRZ for enduros and trail rides. My CRF is assigned to the 2 hr GNCC-type races we have around here.

Back to the Berg, I haven't had time to look it up or read up on it all that much yet. I have some questions:

-I will need a skid plate and rad guards soon. I believe the OEM is the way to go for the skid plate. Any stocking dealers out there willing to ship USPS to Canada?

-Will the rear light work as a brake light? What size brake light switch is needed for the rear brake?
 
Thanks. Any stocking dealer in Canada is fine by me and Canada Post will do fine. I'm from Montreal and Husaberg is not too well represented around here. I bought the bike from a dealership in Ontario selling it's last Husabergs and they didn't have any parts (...or my manuals).
 
Who in ON was that?

If I can't get to my dealer, he sends me stuff via post. it saves me the time and gas.
NSMAN carries many spares and can order stuff in for you in a matter of days usually.

I got the bike at Cycle Improvements in Waterloo. $6999 cdn sounded good for a new Husaberg. They had another one in stock as of Monday if anyone is interested. I'll contact NSMAN for the skid plate.
 
Regular digicam. Just took some random pics when I got home on Monday with the bike. On that picture, the bike is flanked by the DRZ and the baby stroller!

I've only found about 10 minutes to look at the bike so far. I pulled a chair in the garage yesterday and I was just in awe of it.
 
Better get used to sitting in that chair.

Sounds dumb but whenever I walk past mine I pat the seat like it was a horse or something.

I love my bike. :)

factory jetting is lean, factory gearing is tall. Drop the CS one tooth in front, beef up the pilot jet to a 45. after 12-15 hours expect to see a stronger hit down low in the powerband. That bike is the shortest short stroke bike around and the lightest E start 450 on the planet

expect electric smooth power with a wide ratio tranny that makes you chase the gears a little with more throttle with each shift up in the spread which causes you to go lots faster then you expect due to the smooth electric delivery. You'll learn where the brakes are! watchout for fast coming trees! ;)

great bike VERY reliable, one year later, 140 hours and my bike is every bit as reliable as that DRZ but 40 lbs lighter then the S model and 25 lbs lighter then an E. I know I had one.

Excellent info BigBob! Looking at your pic, I figure we are of similar weight and stature. I'll research the needed CS and pilot jet part numbers.

Do you have a take on what I need to get to have an operational brake light?
 
NSMAN set my brakes up, if he sees this post he may be able to help.
It's prolly a stock KTM item.
 
Hi Flagman,
The rear brake light switch is a common KTM part # 503 11 051 100.Too bad you did not get your manuals etc ,makes things a little easier.I do stock the Berg skid plate.All the street legal parts are available form Husaberg and make getting a street plate easier..

Other question...there are two connectors and a couple of sets of wires hanging behind the headlight. Do those connect to the street equipment mentioned above?
 
Just a quick note on the oem bash plate, The one with the sides to protect the water pump. While in Moab, Kurt from bike barn hit the bash plate rather hard, the top of the side plate is at the same height as where the hose attaches to the water pump, and the hit was just enough to pinch the hose between the water pump and the edge of the plate and put a hole in it. it was not difficult to fix but fortunately Kurt noticed it right away.

I am sold on the plastic plate from Boss and as soon as i scrape up a bit of extra cash i will be buying one.
