Gudday all, from a new Husaberg owner. Have to say this is one great site,been lurking for some time reasearching b4 buying a new "old stock" 05(or is it 04?six piston Beringer, Force colours) FS 650 Berg here in Oz.Previously only owned road bikes, I decided on a 650 Berg to provide a donor engine for a Spondon framed( designed for RS 250-TZ 250 engine) special ,that I intend to road register. However I am enjoying my registered Berg so much I may have to consider finding another engine and leaving this one alone.I have been constantly amazed at interest shown by people in the street in this bike, something that has never occured with any other bike I have owned. Time to renew my membership at Darwin's Hidden Valley road race club TERRA I think, did one season on a R6 a few years ago, but I recon the 650 will be more fun than that.Some threads on this site have indicated the big loads placed on (mains)bearings during downshifting(high revs,shock loading) on tarmac can lead to engine damage, and I have noticed several SuperMono/SOS racers in the UK that have used 650 Berg engines in their road racers have comented on the same thing. Will a correctly set up slipper clutch dramatically reduce these stresses? No comment from the"just use your left hand, you sook" blokes please! Love the bike, love the site, some of the banter has had me in stitches. Murphy :D

Murphy, sweet bike! I have no personal experience with Bergs on the pavement, but a slipper clutch would seem like a good idea. What I do have to add is that at Husabergs own site, www.Husaberg.se, they have a list of factory accessories. In that list is an "anti-hopping" clutch, stated to do the work otherwise left to your left hand. I am sure that other units are on the market, but one can be had from a Husaberg dealer. Good luck with that beast!
 
if you use these things for road racing you'll need a cush drive in the rear hub. they weren't made for raod work and remain unmodified for SM. therefore they are unused to the BHP and the stress that conmes with it.

i raced a ducati pantah for 13 years and would never have dreamed of using the bike without cush drive.

after that you need to work hard at gaining reliability and there are two members here that may help you. C4 bearings throughout, arbor bored cases, the best bearings, blue printed parts and of course a careful study of the owners doc.

there is some information out there such as twin springs for the valves, titanium valves etc that we don't do much on. or should i say, if i haven't done it and dale doesn't tell us then nobody does.

quite frankly with the attitude of one person i'm suprised he puts up anything at all that will benefit anyone else but there...

the two guys that may help you are DrC and Makke (i think it's makke). they raod race. also, we have someone from the UK that did supermoto, left a few photos and hasn't been seen since! name from here escapes me but again someone might help.

the SM boys are looking for the same power but they will NOT have your reliability issues!

Nice ride! I can understand the aprehension to convert.... But a spondon framed 'berg with YZ/TZ type bodywork -- yellow and blue , now that would be a ride....
 
My 06 did will road racing last year. No probs. I did add a cush drive when I bought it, but other than that it's pretty much bone stock...
 
The Husaberg factory web sit also lists 17" damped wheels-Supermoto, in black or silver. I would guess damped is the same as cush drive.
 
I have 4000kms on my FS450, half of them at various race tracks and have had no issues with the bike. The machine has had the cush drive since new, I believe that you need one or the other, not both. Welcome to the wonderful world of a Husaberg.....I ride with 6 guys who all own Ducati's and everytime we are stopped somewhere be it a race track or a cafe, my bike is the one that has the crowd around it!! Forget the 999R, this thing is called a Husa...what????

The bike was AFM competitive for a number of years and quite reliable.

What motor was used in this bike?

I have seen this picture several times but that nice looking cover has me wondering just what is underneath it :D

Don't happen to have a picture of the cover off laying around do ya?

Based on a simple 1996 "pre pump" no frills Husaberg race engine.
Final displacement: 620 cc.

She could be a challenge to bump start. :oops:
We went through a lot of tennis shoes. LOL

Chassis was based on a modified RGV Suzuki and used TZ wheels.

Oh yeah! Some nice long straightaways, and high speed sweeping corners.....south through Mexican Hat (where my old 1964 Ducati 250 came from) east to Dove Creek..........
