interested in purchasing a Highland V2 motorcycle?
Three for sale. Two are new and one is THIS slightly used and well tuned test unit. Slightly used = 80 miles and roughly 10 hours of dynamometer time.

The bikes could prove difficult to register (even offroad) as they are true prototype, however, what a great race engine. :)

Dale:

You stated that these are prototypes. Isn't the Outback model in production or are these different or preproduction 07 models?
BTW nice trench drain in what appears to be new concrete. You just can't have too many drains :)

The few Outbacks sold (Europe / UK) were primarily carbureted. Unfortunately the FI version performed worse then that of the carbureted model.

In any event these particular bikes were to be used for US certification.
Things turned ugly and what remains are three very expensive pre production FI prototypes.

Regarding production, manufacturing and availability:
Often perceived reality is the only reality.

It is a sorted tail regarding the selling of something that did not truly exist. Out of respect for those that lost big I should say no more.

Sincerely,
Dale

PS
If not for KTM Husaberg would likely have suffered a similar fate.

Dale,

Can you have your friend provide a Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin from Highland? If so, I could get them titled and registered with a license plate from a distant U.S. state. The rest would be no harder than what I'm presently doing with my FS650c. Get them on the street and at a few significant venues and you'd be surprised at the interest.

By the way, did the Folan engine people ever get a good lubrication system sorted out? Could someone who buys these bikes expect them to last and are they up to speed, quality-wise for the 21st century? They really do look cool.

No and yes respectively.

Technically these motorcycles should be dismantled and destroyed.

For details please feel free to give me a call.

Reading between the lines, it Highland dead?

Highland / Folan is a cat living life #9. One man can only do so much and my soul is not for sale.

When you view the following link keep in mind what I stated earlier regarding perceived reality.

Should I asume the Chinese single project isn't going as well as first thought? The single project is very pretty and makes logical sense to keep costs down and stay afloat but still there is much that is scary about that project.

According to my latest correspondence with Mats Malmberg (Highland CEO) the single is a true jewell. With the chinese connection it appears Highland now has acceptable financial resources to produce a quality product which is hauntingly familiar regarding Husaberg and KTM.

Overall life #9 may prove positive for Highland as it has for Husaberg.
However, I simply see no future in it for me personally in particularly regarding my beloved V2.

Hope this clears things up a bit.

Kind Regards,
Dale

Seems like Folan are still around: http://www.folan.se/
Now into making the 1116 cc v2 engine for quad, snowmobile and boating. And continuing the production of fire pump engines. These guys are apparently no quitters.

Great Information!
Thank You.

Happy to learn the "Folan" name lives on.

Cheers,
Dale

This thread makes me think of my quad.

Does anyone know the history behind it?

I know very little.

RE: Re: Purchase a Highland

You could possibly buy one and register it as a home built or custom?

Hi Scott,
These bikes are long gone and that is exactly what the new "Non California" owner has done.

Cheers,
Dale

Indeed, however your advice was well received and appreciated.

I have heard that if BMW ends up buying Husky that they also are going to buy Highland and merge Husky and Highland into one brand.
