Inquiring minds would like to know... sigh

I have looked hard at the bike and the frame schematics and it appears there are 4 mounting points but for the life of me a I can't see how you could get at them. Most modern bikes have a clip assembly at the rear of the tank and two bolts at the front which you can usually access from behind the rads.

This doesn't appear to be the case on bergs.

I didn't want to take the rad shrouds off the tank because if they are anything like KTM'ss the alignment is critical and a bugger to reset if you lose it.

Is the answer under the shrouds?

Cheers

RE: Still a berg newbie - so how does the fuel tank come off

Maybe I am a bit dense buy what are you asking? how to remove the tank and shrouds? if this is it then you have bought the right bike it can not be any easier,

Remove the seat, unhook the fuel lines (shut them off first :)). remove the bottom bolts holding the shrouds to the radiator fins bracket, and lift up on the tank. the Four mounting points you see are just rubber mounts that slip up into recesses in the tank. the tank and shrouds will come off as one unit.

taking the rad shrouds off the tank is cake as well, and they are easy to get back in place.

I think to remove all of the plastics, sans the front fender, you have you loosen, at most six easy to access bolts. cant get much easier...

edit: I guess I could have read the entire topic and i would have found out what you were asking....

:)

That is what I was asking - I was sure there had to be another set of mounting points, guess not. The rad shrouds hold the tank down via the rads - I would not have thought that strong enough... I'll understand better when I see how the four posts contribute.

Thanks

Mark

oh the that is not what holds the tank, the rubber mounts are a TIGHT fit. and kind of an upward and forward lift. they do a very good job..

:)

I just edited my post to reflect just that point...

You've been a great help

I always find it quicker to unscrew the 4 rad shroud screws from the tank and rotate the rad shrouds forward,,anyone else do this.

Mark,
Two things to watch for, 1) The long bolt that holds the Rad. protectors is easily striped. Take your time getting them lined up when reattaching the shrouds. If they do strip a longer bolt that goes through the shroud will solve the problem as the long bolt has deep threads. 2) The preformed fuel line (the one that makes a U-turn) makes contact with a small protrusion on the carb. In time this will cover your left boot with gas when it wears through, usually in the middle of BFE. The KTM replacement part has a larger loop and cures this pain. Or get this cool 2 into 1 fitting like taffy.

That actually makes a lot of sense. the shroud thing, I mean... well come to think of it, so does putting your underwear in first! mmmhhh, whodda thunk it...

Thanks for the heads up on the fuel line wear point...

Any idea where Taffy got that nice dual fitting?

Mike, do you know if this is still a porblem with the '07s?

jwilly,
I don't know if it is a problem with the 07's. But if you look at the "U-turn line" and it makes contact there, wear will follow.

Mark,
In the owners Doc under carburation taffy does not say where his 2 into 1 union came from. I am sure he will be along directly to enlighten us all.

I have finally received my electrical parts and brackets to cut in a KTM ignition key and then I'll cleanup some of the awful wiring routing as well as remove what isn't needed.

Given the maintenance intervals on the top end, I intend on installing a couple of the those slick quick disconnect fuel fittings with the integral shutoff valves - maybe I can reroute fuel lines to avoid that carb casting.

Cheers
