Lots of info out there already, but still it would help to narrow your request. Are you interested in the legal aspects of dualsports a formerly track only bike, or the tech aspects? Since you're in CA, if your question is about the legal process, all I can suggest is that you move.

Husaberg was kind enough to use the same ignition on the FE and FC pre 99 (ie older analog ignition) , thus giving you lighting coils on an FC. My 00 FC with the digital ignition did not have lighting coils. My 03 owners manual lists NA under the alternator heading for an FC, which makes me tend to thing the newer digital ignition FC models also don't have lighting coils. Hope its a 98 and earlier model.

oh you guys are killin me here (slight sarcasum) im happy to tell you dsducati that my bike is a 98 good news for me as far as cali i will have it plated else where like the lil car i bought since im only "stationed" here for a couple of years i will look some more online here i just wanted somones opinon that had done it. keep up the good work

Dan,

Im at work as I type this so I can't verify this for 100%, but I am about 99.5% sure that my 2002 FC550 has a lighting coil and all the wiring for it, just not used. All I think I would need to do is add a rectifier(not on bike) if I also wanted to go with a battery setup, or capacitor w/o a battery setup. From what I understand, either of the two mentioned options would only be needed if I was not concerned about dimming of the light under less than normal RPM's or when the bike is not running at all. Of course the capacitor would not allow the bikes lighting to run for any extended length of time with the bike not running. Hope this helps.

Doesn't surprise me a bit to hear of of a newer FC with lighting coils. Probably what they had, and the manuals do leave a lot to be desired. Maybe I'll get lucky and my 99 FC will have lighting coils. Have yet to pull the tank and look for the yellow wire. Recently installed an Acerbis aftermarket headlight (that looks a lot like what comes on the newer Bergs) on my old 96 FC501 for the fellow that bought it and also the same headlight on my Husky TC610. Chapparel sells a moose regulator for $15 that you simply T into the yellow wire that runs to the headlight. I'm using a 45 Watt bulb so the light is fairly bright at idle and the regulator works fine at burning off the excess power so the bulb doesn't pop at high revs since the stator output is 70 watts. Was sceptical how well it would hold up for $15, but so far so good. Husaberg even has a mounting stud behind the coil on the older models that the moose unit will bolt right onto.

not too tough a job. like the guys say, you've already got lighting coils onboard.. the yellow wire under the tank. to make sure it works, fire up the bike and read the voltage you get to ground on a dc scale. don't remember what it is, (its rpm related), but will be over 12v. in order to keep from blowing bulbs (or was that seals? ), you will need a voltage limiter. you can use one from a number of different apps as long as it was a 12v system. mine uses a suzuki dr unit. just wire it in to your yellow and ground it so it will bleed off excess voltage. mount an on-off toggle or plunger switch in front of the top fork clamp as an option. get yourself a brake lite switch if there isn't one already on your front or rear master cylinder, get an ascerbis or other brand enduro taillight assy and bolt it under the rear fender, score any number of headlite assys, wire it up and go. mirrors and horns just require a little imagination.
just remember, if you do move, people in az don't want anymore calis coming here using up all our water. :p

The UFO dual sport kit is very nice and fits very well on a Husaberg.

Check my gallery. Bobzilla (the previous owner) installed it and it fits very well on this bike, as if it came with it.

As for the plating, yes, move out of California.

dont worry ned i hope to be going back home to washington in 1 1/2 yrs....thanks again guys for all of the advise. I really think I aught to just wait save up and buy an 07 FE450 though anyone know of anybody thats has them

Just wanted to post up for a 100% confirmation on my previous post, I looked on my bike and sure enough, lighting coils and wiring is all there on my '02 FC500/6. Attached are some pics...

mberg501, Try BOSS, he is riding a 07 FE 450 and I'm sure he can get into one as well.
See BOSS's new bike.
