Hi guys,

My brother has gone out and purchased an '05 550 exactly the same as I have.
We noticed the angle of the oil filler is different on the 2 bikes (see attached images)
They are both '05s and in the manual the angle looks straight.

Mine is the one on the angle, I thought it may have been a mod to enable better access to the oil filler where the pipes get in the way.
If so is it an '06 mod?
Can anyone clarify why the difference between the angles?

Thanks

The bottom pic looks like a '04 just by looking at the filler hole. But the kick lever looks like a '05. The 04 still had the old kick lever but the new gear shift lever. Early 05 models did have the filler hole as in the lower pic though. So maybe he shouldn't worry about it.

Do you have any more pics of it? The 05 models got a new swing arm and a new exhaust in addition to the plastic of course.

Try checking the first digit of the 2 bikes engine numbers to ensure they are both 05s.
I believe Husaberg have adopted the KTM system whereby the first digit of the engine no represents the year of manufacture:
Starts with 4= 2004
Starts with 5= 2005
Starts with 6= 2006

I asked this question recently and the only respondent veryfied his 2004 bikes engine no did in fact start with 4.
EDIT: Just had an 05 owner verify his engine no. starting with 5 and angled filler cap.

Also check the 10th digit of your VIN no to see what year the bike.

Mine's an '05 & it starts with a 5

Thanks for that info- that pretty much verifies that Husaberg are using the KTM system :)

Reply from a dealer in Oz: The bikes are both '05 models although the one with the angled oil filler is a series 2 engine. The filler was angled to make oil filling easier. We got a mix of series one and series 2 bikes but until the bikes were un packed we didn't know which was which. Other than the oil filler there are no differences.
