98 fe400. bike would not restart on sunday during a club ride after i was bragging how easy it was to start. :evil: suspected something electric. resistance readings on the stator were pretty close to spec, but trigger voltage is only about 6v (ac or dc) on a swift kick. pulled the flywheel to see the stator and was presented with a 4" long rub mark on the top where it had dragged on the flywheel. measured a bunch of distances including the standoffs on the case. the measurements indicated everything was straight. dialed end of crank.. perfect. seems the distance from the mount plate of the stator to the point where it is rubbing is about .070 higher than similar points arond the stator (even after being rubbed off). anybody ever seen anything like this? its almost like it wasnt straight in the jig when they made it. makes a new stator look imminent. this ones only a year old. there's a bunch of views in my gallery.
