what you have in you tire looks like screws what trelleborg have is studs
they clued in and core of stud is carbide with a softer steel casing
they have in sweden a special ice tire called finn dubb which is more
sharp then a regular stud if you run screw tires on frozen dirt they tend to pull out and the stud stay in place since screw are just harden steel
they wear out quickly where the carbide don't wear out
so long

I use Trelleborg. Found "new" older ones made in Sweden, not Chech Republic. Our bikes are mainly Enduro, so the tires are what we use in the forest. And yes, they are not nearly as good on ice as purposebuilt ice-tires.
Main thing is to have fun and take every opportunity to ride in our unpredictable winter weather!
The good thing about Enduro studs, like Viking says, is that you can ride them carefully even on tarmac on your way to the trail/ice.

I understand. The tires that we use are for the ice tracks only. They can not be used in the forest because the screws will tear out and it ruins the tire.

We use covers on the tires when transporting the bikes because the studs will not stay sharp if you roll them across concrete, pavement, etc. The screws are made specifically for ice racing and are 1 1/2 to 2" long. We use liners, usually made from street bike tires, inside the motocross tire to hold the ice screws. The tires are usually around $400 each and there are only a few people who know how to build really good ones in Canada. Maybe 6-8 people. There is a big difference between tires that are built by people on their own and ones built professionally.

Canadian ice tires!
First time i ever seen this, very interesting. Wonder if they grip like ours do on the ice.
Attached photos with finndubb, specially made for the ice(MX bikes).
We do have real ice racing on ovals but those guys only go counter clockwise, and no right turns. Have seen that kind of tire on Streetbikes 1100cc, at a place called Hagfors in Sweden. Those studs are really dangerous.

#42 is Jim Titmus from Calgary, Alberta. He has been ice racing forever and has always been a top expert. He definitely hauls butt and can back it in to the corners as good as anyone.

I got a great start during my first race on the ice in the pro class and was pumped to be running 3rd or 4th coming out of the first corner. Before I could blink my eyes, Titmus went flying by me like I was standing still and scared the crap out of me!!! :shock: :shock: :shock: :(

I learned to pick up the pace pretty quick out of fear of getting run over by guys like him :D
