KTMs new 4 stroke apparentley:

Does this mean Husabergs rumoured "new" motor could be the "old" KTM RFS
Wouldn't that be a bizarre turn around !!!
.

Am I missing something here :?:

Shouldn't there be a link or something here???

Sorry guys. I must have screwed up. Try this link:
New KTM info and pics
If this is adopted in all bikes does that mean the "old" RFS gets handed back to its rightful owner(Husaberg), or sold of to Beta as it is currently used in their enduro line ?.
Husaberg>KTM>Beta> ????.Maybe Polaris might have a "New" engine. :?:

Now thats an interesting piece of kit.....makes you wonder whats in store for Hsb.

That engine looks rather skyscraperish, clunky, and chunky. I hope it doesn't look that large and heavy in real life.

missing - 1x kickstart

Yes but there is a groove in the tank for it.

They may have removed it to emphasize the fact that now the e-start is included in the SXF lines.

It's also missing the guard between the foot and the front sprocket.

I suspect they would do the same as when they can't kick start their bike because its too hot, they leave it for the mechanic to push bakc to the pits to cool off.

Note that Bubba has had I think 2 poor finishes since he could not restart his bike. While they may be sacrificing a little weight, at least the bike will restart to salvage a moto after a crash.

The moto bike runs way hotter and I would'nt think that the offroad bike would be without similar features.

Huh yeah maybe but what do you do when your battery is dead? :?

I used to sometimes ride with a guy who has a e-start only yamaha (wr250?) , it is one of the most frustrating things... (aside from when your own bike wont start with the button or the kick  ) he is told old and out of shape to push it fast enough to bump it and he has always been to cheap to fix the charging system...

needless to say we stopped riding with him.. until he gets it fixed..

Which one is the most cluttered? The new KTM engine or the Highlander?

When it comes to looks the Highlander is the better one. By far.

Wow, that Highland mtr really looks nice, got some BERG influence. Maybe KTM could buy them and hinder development till everyone else catches up

Not being completely new to exotic bikes (although, I prefer the Husaberg), I once owned a Cannondale! Now, there is a huge amount of heresay and the like about cannondale...but that engine from Highland, was designed, in part, by one of the Cannondale R & D guys (who is originally from Finland, and worked on Husquvarna before they moved). I've heard, but can't confirm, that he had a hand in the RFS as well.

See the following thread... I make no claim to the accuracy of this information, but it sounds pretty good. Scroll up on the link until you see the Highland bike. Looks very sweet...and fuel injected too!

Too late, it went to China. Hopefully, these good looking AGAs will soon be produced in great numbers and be available at very affordable prices indeed.

Mats Malmberg owns "Highland.SE". Both twin and single are indeed being manufactured in China.

Highland is what remains of the now defunct Folan. The Folan was basically designed by Husaberg / Husqvarna engineer Urban Larsson.

Cannondale considered the purchase of Folan, however, in the end they simply built their own engine based on the Folan concept.

Dale

PS
I am currently developing a Highland V2.

On a side note, do you know if David Larsson of Husaberg is related to Urban?

From what I have read over on KTM talk (and other searches), the new KTM motor will be available as a 450 and a 505 (500cc +/-). The FIM rules for open class are 480cc+, so I'm sure KTM is fine tuning the displacement of the 505 to get optimal performance. KTM is reportedly also making a 560, don't know if it is based on the existing rfs, or the new motor. BTW, the new motor is estart only, and KTM claims it weighs the same as the current kickstart only rfs!

The KTM 560 is the old style RFS engine. The bore (100mm) is identical to that of the 'berg 550 and the stroke is nearly identical, within a mm. Imagine that.
