Hi,

I have a spare set of enduro wheels I want to fit to my 05 FS650e for the odd trail ride with friends. I know that the front brake will have to be changed, I have a brembo enduro caliber and lever I'm going to use and I know I'll have to make a bracket to adapt the radial brake mount to the brembo caliber. Also I know that the suspension is 25mm lower at the front and the parts manual says the rear is 10mm lower, also the valving is heavier in the forks and shock but this may suit my weight, 250lbs.

Has anyone done this? Will the lower suspension height cause any other problems? Will this cause the front wheel to hit the headers?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if/how you can adapt the FS radial front brake mount & caliper to properly fit with the FE 21 inch front rim and smaller front brake rotor. It will be interested to see if you can make it work.

A different option to consider would be to just put some Avon Distanzia tires on the stock FS 17 inch rims. Distanzia's are a great dual-sport tires and they come in the 120/70/17 and 160/60/17 supermoto sizes. You won't have the same grip in the dirt as full knobbies but for hard packed dirt riding it will be decent.

Remember to soften up the suspension for the dirt.

You could use a shims (6mm thick, or fabricate a new wider spacer) for the wheel
AND one for the brake disc (6mm as well, of course)

The drawback on what I suggested is that the front wheel woun't line up to the back wheel.
You will feel the difference but I don't think that it will concern you that much.
Keep that large brake disc in mind when you're out there & you'll be fine.
You just might want to release ALL of the compression damping as well to soften up the fork.
The FS forks are harsh enough as it is...

It is tried & tested (by several riders here in Sweden) so it will work!

Is it even possible to fit the caliper & match it up to a smaller brake disc?

Thanks for the replys, with the front brake I will be using a 310mm KTM wave rotor designed to be used with the enduro brembo caliber with a spacer. And for the actual caliber itself I have bought of ebay a complete 2005 front brake system with the enduro brembo caliber and master cyclinder. I will fabricate a bracket to go from the radial bracket on the bottom of the fork leg to the brembo caliber.

I have already tried to fit the enduro wheel with the FTE caliber but this doesn't work as the FTE caliber is thicker and fouls on the spokes of the enduro wheel.

Thats what the spacers are for in my suggestion, IMO it will be easier to shim the wheel & the brake disc.
But then you have to live with the drawbacks of that installation.

Good luck & have fun!

I think it is easier, cheaper and better to follows the ghost-guys (hej nicke) advice.

I also have a 05 FS650 and is using the stock caliper and wave disc.
Fabricate a 5-6mm thicker spacer bushing to move the wheel to the right and another spacer to bring the disc back. Thats it.

Watch the three new pics in my gallery to see how fun we had last weekend. I'm #86.

I've already paid for the brembo front brake setup so I'll go down that path first. One of my friends is an extremely talented fitter and turner and has access to CAD operated CNC machines so he has volunteered to make the adapting bracket.
