DID Cam Chain Quality?

I just took my new 05 KTM chain (#81036013100) out of the box and was surprised on how much thinner the side plates were. The old side plates measure .060 thick and the new chain measure .040 for the inside links and .052 for the outside links. The new chain seams to have more clearence also.Am I missing the boat here somewhere? :?

possible packaging error , or maybe incorrect part number comes to mind .

my dear good fellow!

it's the inner plate that pivots on the pins that are connected to the outer plates.

this means that the outer plates are there for 'stretching' strength (forgotten the posh word for now) and the inner plates for the width of contact area with the pins + the above.

thus two slightly dirfferent jobs.

thus two different widths.
