A a so called 'berg expert rebuilt my 650 lump before it came into my hands. I was struggling to get the motor going but when I did, it blew large clouds of blue smoke. So I reluctantly decided to strip and inspect. Behold the attached images

It would seem this had been assembled by plumbers mate what with all the silicon bath sealant abounding  Have a look a look at the reed valve and you'll see that there are lumps of silicon holding it open, hence why it blew the smoke. This silicon was blown up the reed valve port and was probably the excess squeezed from assembling the crankcases :(

Look at the oil filter housing. That was there behind the oil filter, it hasn't fallen in from disassembly The feed to the inlet rocker shaft was blocked with silicon and needless to say the feed to the bigend was probably compromised too :(

I also discovered the replacement inlet valve did not seal to the seat so that won't have helped

The builder is UK based and is known to some on this forum, but i won't post who it is but if anybody wants to know who it is, pm me.

berg builders, I've sh*t 'em

Sorry to see the mess of silicone Spiney. Looks like this builder doesn't have a clue but hopefully he was just having a bad day. You show great dignity and restraint in not posting his name for all to see.

Having been through this kind of experience, I would remove their balls!

Nothing less!

They don't learn.....

I work in a state-of-the-art 8 inch (200mm) semiconductor fabrication plant and in all my 12 years in the industry have never seen soooo much silicon in one place at the same time..... come to think of it, I have never seen that much silicon!!!! I would have fallen over and needed defibulation if i cracked open my case to see that mess. I had a hot flash looking into the oil filter recess. Im sure you will be able to sort the mess out but that just sucks. Best of luck on reassembly.

Regards,

For what it may be worth:
Such a practice was OEM direct with pre pump engines. :?
