I once heard somewhere that 90% or more of a magazines revenue comes from advertisements, and that subscriptions and retail sales only constitute 5% to 10% of a magazines revenue. I certainly believe this as I have to flip through 12-15 pages of advertisements to read a 5 page article.... which the majority of the pages of the article have half page advertisements on them. So in all reality there is about 9 and 3/4 pages of biased and largely fabricated falsehoods about the authors opinions. All of this squeezed in between 135 pages of grossly distorted truths about weight savings, and power increases!!! I swear that if you could bolt up all the power increasing mods that are sold in these magazines, you would have yourself a 113.6hp CRF450 that weighed in at 145lbs!!! When you read these magazine articles you have to spend 98% of your read filtering the BS they write up. I totaly agree with DaleEO about the suspension test, that would be too funny.

Regards,

So True!!!!!!

And just to take this a step further.................some people won't purchase a Husaberg because of the perceived lack of aftermarket parts. Most of which are useless. Two immediately come to mind. The Powernow gizmo and the Boyesen Quick Shot.

I have offered test bikes to Dirt Bike half a dozen times, and have not even received a "we'll get back to you."
They do not acknowledge our brand, basically.
I'm not sure if it's me, or if it's BMG, or if DB's lack of attention is due to something that happened prior to BMG's involvement. But I keep on trying.

Cheers,

Brett Saunders

Brett, you are aware of my skepticism of magazines. My conspiracy theory on this one is that KTM USA has a written or unwritten clause that Husaberg is to be ignored, or KTM USA will spend less $$$'s on DB. Husaberg eliminates the dilema that KTM buyers face. 2T handling or 4T power, hmmm, Hbg has both, just buy a Hbg.

Pretty sure it is you.

Of course I am kidding.

Unless you have an in and / or deep pockets DB and many others will continue to blow you off.

Simply continue to lead by example. Integrity has it's own reward.

Sincerely,
Dale

PS
Now you know what it feels like to be a dirttracker. :?

Now to get some attention from the magazines, you need to do something like two exhausts instead of one and claim that it will improve.... the handling. Or course. Two pipes = better handling. (Obviously).

And of course twice as many "performance" exhausts necessary, which makes the advertisers happy.

That's how you get a winner.

2 pence...

How about a Lineaweaver prepped bike for SuperMoto Racer Magazine. They are new enough not to be tainted. That would at least give a bit more coverage and show its potential against some of the modded KTM's, etc. covered in the mag lately. Scott tends to race many of his current project bikes also, so that will give some race action/promotion.

I personally would like to see :D the following, but it isn't production:
FC550 w/ 06 slim tank.
Close ratio 6spd. with slipper clutch.
Dale's big valve head with cam.
Full exhaust (Akro???)
Removed counterbalancer (spins up a bit quicker).
Worked over Keihin.
Excel/Talon ultra lite wheels.
QTMI Brembo brakes.
Terry Hay(Aussie RaceTech) SM suspension.
Offset clamps.

You could also do similar mods to the 650, but I think the shorter stroke 550 is a better motor for Kart tracks. It should be an awsome platform for 06 AMA also.

I will accept ANY test bikes and report the results here. :D

Hey, any of you guys remember when DB went all ga-ga over Cannondale? A completely unproven, unseen ,shadow motorcycle. Husaberg already had a WORLD TITLE under their belt at that time. All the copycats that followed have only improved the bloodline of the Husaberg. It was indeed a monumental accomplishment by the small group of people who envisioned it and then made it happen. I think that's why I ride one.......it generally gives back to me everything I put into it. It's not pretty or polished or mainstream, but then, neither am I! :D  8)

I don't think it's all about the advertising. When was the last time you saw an ad for a frickin ATK? If it was a matter of not having an 06' picture at press time, I'm sure one email would have fixed that problem too. No..., the people at Dirt Bike are a bunch of dill holes, sweet and simple.

Well there was a good informative article on the whole affair in a RacerX a few months ago, with sepia photos and such.

Why didn't they start with a good simple 2-stroke and rely on their reputation as a cycle manufacturer first before trying to innovate is beyond me.

To make a long story short:
Cannondale originally intended to use a Folan (now Highland) engine. Folan fumbled, Cannondale truly believed they could pick up the ball and run it for a touchdown.

Dale

PS
I know such to be fact.

Cannondale could see the future of MX bikes.
They just didn't know it took that much time
and money to get there.

Count your blessings as Husaberg has been in the same boat a time or two. :)

So Cannondale would still be around had they beed an "engine outfitter" like Beta?

You will have to charge a lot more than 4 bucks.
You won't have many advertizers, and I know of
4 big ones that won't grace your pages.

I just received the December issue of Dirt Bike Magazine. I may just go along with the conspiracy theory (who doesn't like a good conspiracy anyway  )

They have virtually every bike available in the U.S. listed except the Husaberg. They even had a full size 50cc Gas Gas. Full sized 50cc bikes are rarely imported in the U.S. as we do not have a class for them. Dirt Bike stated that it would be a good bike for kids who do not want to race. Huh........................ Thats all they are good for. Safety wire the throttle wide open and go. They also said the KTM 85 has the best suspension and motor but the YZ 85 is best overall. Conflicting nonsense spread all over the place.

This issue was truly a slap in the face to Husaberg.
