Hello everyone

I have just started to restore an old Husaberg 501 from 1991.

As I have never worked on a Husaberg before, I am missing some important information.
I would just like to get some basic information about the model and get some helpful tips.
What I have already noticed is that various parts are quite difficult to obtain, especially if you don't know exactly which year you can use everything for.

Does anyone have any tips on where I can get parts for my old bike, and which model years are identical?

I am also missing a wiring diagram and a workshop manual. As I have to redo the complete wiring harness, this would be very helpful.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Best regards
Tobias

Hello :)

Thank you very much, it has helped me a lot.
I have already painted the frame. Now I can get started.

Looks like a good color match. Perhaps you could document your progress here. Not many 1991 frame up restos threads to be found. Should be fun.

Sure, I'll be happy to do that.
I've already done the steering head bearing today and cleaned them all properly. The steering head bearing will go into the ultrasonic bath tomorrow and will then be re-greased before the steering head is reassembled.

The suspension fork is already fitted. Slowly you can see what it is going to be. 😁

Hello
Thanks for the tip.
Yes, I have already noticed that with the parts :)

Unfortunately, both bearing sleeves and the swingarm axle were broken on the swingarm. Of course I couldn't find them anywhere. I have now bought hardened precision steel and am having the sleeves and axle re-milled by a colleague.

I have already re-stuffed the exhaust and powder-coated various small parts.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how the bike rides. :-D

By the way, do you know what they're actually worth? I can't find any FE 501s from 1991 for sale on the internet.

Cheers
Tobias

Hi Tobias,
Good job, I believe I have seen the swingarm pins and bearing for sale on taffmeisters website. Solda moto in italy and Dave Clarke racing in the UK could be worth a try too. Early parts are scarce for sure but they're around in Europe. Try and find anything in Australia! I have posted on some of the facebook sites dedicated to husabergs and had responses.

I am working on a few, including a 1990 FC499 which came totally unassembled. I have rebuilt the motor so far, looking at doing the forks next with a revalve, otherwise you are way ahead! Keep up the updates.:)
