I decided while getting the waterpump gaskets made to ask if the company did anything like little metal plates? 'Yup' they said and I sent them my last sledge plate. The price was too good not to have them made so I did! The old OEM items are black - these are silver. It's a copy of the 2004-2008 plate.
fitting to 1989-2003
Big improvement due to that square edged corner. it stops the kickstart arm square and without a 'twist'.
The modification
1989-2000
huge help with kickstarting. big improvement. well worth it. many owners then get rid of the kickstart decomp. engine turns 6 times instead of 2.
2001-2003
a worthwhile improvement. engine turns 6 times instead of 3-4.
The mod is sold with two torx screws which is an upgrade in itself.
