Wondering what the correct setting on the external rocker arm is supposed to be.

There's some black wear on the nut underneath where it sits, suggesting that it was supposed to be touching / resting on it. At present, I've disconnected it (up at the lever end) until I figure this out. So at present it's resting on / touching that nut.

When I disassembled the cable, I thought I took a pic to remind me, but I think I deleted it.

If someone can comment on where it should sit, that would be appreciated.

cheers,

c

Not sure what you mean exactly.
This is the decomp lever. As you know probably. It's set in TDC on compression stroke. It should have about 10mm play (at the handle bar lever) before it actuates the exhaust rocker, causing the ex - valves to open and decompress.
This is the newer version of the lever. 2004-2008.
The older ones didn't have the upper resting support. This was a bit of a problem... When you wanted to ride without a handle and a semi lever. Because the decomp shaft touched the rocker arm, while the engine was running.Causing damage.

Thanks.

I was trying to ascertain the correct position of that arm, relative to the nut.

I'm also trying to source a new clutch lever, and finding the ones with the correct reservoir lid to hold that lever is very hard to find, locally (I'm on a real time crunch for this upcoming ride).

So I'm assuming running with that cable disconnected would be bad, yes? As in, if temporarily, I find a clutch assembly with no decomp holding assembly.

thx,

c

Hi again.
With the newer models 04-08 it's no problem to run it without the cable. As they just rest on the head of the screw. No worries. Also :i have covers available with the thread for the lever. If you write an email to [email protected]. Have a good 1.

Thanks to you both (not sure why the thanks button didn’t show on c337b’s post.

JoJo, I’m curious as to those covers, the colours, etc.

I’ll write you an email.

Thanks,

C
