I was planning to drain the oil and along with the oil drain plug inadvertently removed the plug for the oil pressure regulator valve.

Now I have pressure spring and ball (see pic) from the crankcase and no idea how/where to put it back in. Classic case of oil pan full of oil and a few parts. Perhaps I'm overthinking, perhaps not?

Has anyone done the same thing and can direct me to the correct procedure installing the oil pressure regular valve?

Checking the service manual (page 113) its says 'install the ball, pressure spring and mount and tighten plug. Simples. However I fear the ball and spring will just swim around inside the crank case until it nukes my motor (and I like my Berg, so I don't want to do that).

What I have arrived at is; the oil drain plug with the magnet inserts horizontally into the case next to the oil screen, see first picture. The ball and pressure spring insert vertically UNDER the engine.

Ive attached pictures that will help describe my predicament. FYI: I always like a good understanding of what I'm doing and why (universal cause and effect).

You’re definitely not the first one, it’s happened many times to many people over the years as reported here and on ADV Rider.

Re-install the pressure regulator parts as shown in the picture, ball then spring then cap with washer.

Before re-installing the magnetic drain plug, remove the black screen plug next to the drain. Clean the screen and re-insert before the mag drain plug. Also use a new copper crush washer on the drain plug.

There’s a second screen on the banjo bolt in the return line from head that should be checked and cleaned periodically as well.

Thanks. Its been a worthwhile process accidentally removing the pressure regulator - getting to know the lubrication system and serviceable parts. Banjo bolts and screen plug all clean and reinstalled now. Clean oil, clean air filters, clean fuel - what more could a Husaberg want?
